31-Day Summer Challenge: Day 31 - Sparklers (aka jonghyun has a bad grip)
A dick.
Jonghyun shouldn’t have looked.
“Taemin,” he starts, exasperated, and Taemin cackles as he perfects his drawing and starts waving his sparkler around faster, making the dick more defined. It is a good dick, he has to admit. Taemin giggles more and waves his sparkler dick away, going back to cute wiggles and lazy arcs.
“What are you working on?” he asks. Jonghyun bounces a little, excited to show off his work. He whips his sparkler through the air, proud of the clear letters flashing in front of him. Taemin snorts, shoving his shoulder gently. “You fucking sap,” he mutters. “Why is it JT?” he asks then, pouting. “Why not TJ?”
“I’m cuter though,” he points out. Jonghyun rolls his eyes.
“Fine,” he says. “Here, wait….” He fumbles with his sparkler, trying to reverse the letters. For just switching the little hook of the J to the other side, this is hader than it looks. He keeps fucking it up because he was practising so much the other way around, but… he thinks he’s got it--
“Jonghyun, wait, fuck--”
The sparkler flies out of Jonghyun’s hand and lands on the picnic table on the porch.
“Shit.” He stifles giggles in his hands as they scurry up there, Taemin trying to pick it up before cursing even louder than Jonghyun when the cheap paper tablecloth catches fire. Jonghyun lunges for their glasses of lemonade from earlier, dumping them both all over the little fire before it gets even worse. He shouldn’t be laughing this hard, he knows, but he still is as he sits down away from the mess and hides his face in his hands. Taemin’s giggling too. He’s fine.
“Jonghyun,” Taemin says, and then sits down next to him. He’s really trying not to laugh. Jonghyun can tell. He takes deep steadying breaths--he doesn’t even know why this was so funny- and lifts up the tablecloth to reveal the scorched, dripping hole and little burn mark on the wood of the table. The doused sparkler rolls off and clatters to the floor. Taemin’s giggles intensify.
“It’s okay, we’ve been wanting to repaint this table anyway,” he says, yanking the tablecloth all the way off and crumpling it up.
“No we haven’t,” Taemin says, shaking his head exasperatedly and reaching over to poke the little burn mark. “We can just get a new tablecloth.”
“Shoosh,” Jonghyun says, squishing his finger against Taemin’s lips. “We totally were. It’ll be fun.”
Taemin snaps at his finger; Jonghyun snatches it away, then snatches Taemin up around the waist and pulls him forward for a kiss.
31-Day Summer Challenge: Day 29 - Summer Sports (aka this was not the plan)
He’s not doing it.
Even if Jonghyun drags him off of the couch, out of the house, and halfway down the boardwalk, he’s still not getting up. He curls up into an even tinier little ball and wiggles against Jonghyun’s exasperated hands.
“Come on, bae,” Jonghyun huffs, trying to find a weakness in his impenetrable fortress of sheets and a pillow. “Soccer! It’s fun! You like fun. Fuck, you like soccer. I know you do.” No. That is a lie. Taemin likes kicking a ball around for shits and giggles. He doesn’t like playing soccer, the actual game of soccer, with penalties and regulations and rules about how to kick a ball around. Especially not with Minho of all people, the fucking sports nut. He humphs and wiggles more into the cushions.
The’re supposed to be baking cookies today. Jonghyun promised. They’re supposed to make milkshakes and then make cute little summer cookies and frost them like beach towels or ice cream cones or some shit. They’re supposed to get distracted halfway through and bang on the kitchen counter and pretend like they meant for that batch of cookies to get burned. They’re not supposed to go off playing soccer on the beach with Minho because Jonghyun forgot he owed Kibum a favor.
“It’s exercise, Taemin,” Jonghyun tries next. “You like exercise?”
“I do exercise,” Taemin grumbles. “I go on walks. And I swim sometimes. And I dance for you in cute little shorts, and then we have sex, and that’s like, two exercises in one. But today wasn’t even supposed to be an exercise day in the first place. So fuck you.” They were gonna make fruit smoothies later too. He hears Jonghyun sigh deeply and feels his weight pressing down on his covers.
“Okay, look,” he says, patting around Taemin’s head. “I know we were supposed to spend today making cookies, okay, but Kibum did that thing where he just springs things on you before you can remember that you’re supposed to say no.”
Taemin makes a blubbery noise that conveys just what he thinks about Jonghyun’s shitty excuses. Jonghyun sighs again and flops his weight all over Taemin, nuzzling his arm.
“You don’t even have to play,” he whines. “I’ll call Jinki or someone. Just come with me. I don’t wanna go without you.” He sounds like he’s pouting. Taemin doesn’t want to look, but just how little and sad Jonghyun’s voice is tugs at him and practically forces him to peek out against his better judgement.
Fuck. He shouldn’t have looked. Jonghyun’s doing the eyes.
“Stop that,” he grumbles, pulling his head back under. Jonghyun wiggles more on top of him and nuzzles his head.
“Please?” he whines. “You can sit on the sides and cheer me on. And tell me to take my shirt off. And heckle Minho for me.” Taemin should really stop listening. His resolve is crumbling. “And Kibum will owe you a favor this time,” Jonghyun adds, wiggling against Taemin’s shoulder.
Fuck.
He tugs the sheets down just enough to level a glare at Jonghyun over them.
“You’ll owe me a favor too?” he asks, the tone of his voice making it clear that the only acceptable answer here is “yes.” Jonghyun tugs gently at the sheets, nodding quickly.
“Yes, yes,” he agrees. “Just come spend the day with me.” His eyes are calling out to Taemin’s soul.
With a final humph, Taemin lets Jonghyun drag him off of the couch. He’ll make Jonghyun buy him a milkshake later.
31-Day Summer Challenge: Day 28 - Cafés (aka taem has a lil bit of a soul at least)
And Jonghyun is drinking it all like a shit, even though he already has his own vanilla banana swirl. Taemin drops his hand and slumps back in his chair in defeat. He feels a hot burn behind his eyes. Is he going to cry? What the fuck. He doesn’t cry. Especially not for--
“Oh, ohhh, baby, no.” Jonghyun’s hands are suddenly on his shoulders, tugging him closer and wrapping around him. “Baby, I’m sorry,” he wails. “I wasn’t gonna drink it all.” Taemin blinks, flopping against Jonghyun’s chest like a doll. Oh. Hmm. Yeah. He was totally about to cry. Why try denying it?
He sniffles as pathetically as he can manage and makes his eyes big and shiny.
“You had your own,” he mumbles. Jonghyun makes a truly anguished noise and gently pushes Taemin back enough to look into his eyes. Taemin thinks maybe he should never pretend to cry again, because Jonghyun looks like his very soul is being crushed with guilt, but for now, he’s going to roll with it.
“I know,” Jonghyun whines, squeezing Taemin’s shoulders imploringly. “I was just messing around, bae. I know you love these smoothies.”
Taemin is really glad he went for the big flower behind his ear instead of the hat that morning. He must look extra tiny and sad. He sniffles again, puffling his lower lip out in a pout.
“Can you get me another one?” he asks quietly. “Please?” He lets his bangs fall into his eyes as Jonghyun shoots up out of his seat almost immediately. He almost falls over himself trying to get back to the counter. Taemin fights a smile behind his back, reaching out to take his original smoothie back and sip happily.
“Your heart is ice,” a voice behind him says. Taemin cocks a brow and leans back in his chair to find the owner of that voice: their backyard neighbor’s daughter, Amber, sharing a table with her friends. He grins with his straw still between his teeth.
“Free smoothie though,” he says, wiggling his eyebrows. Amber scoffs; he scoffs right back. “You’re just jealous you’re not as cute as me,” he says, sticking out his tongue. She rolls her eyes and nods to something behind his shoulder that has to be Jonghyun returning back with his new smoothie. He puts his sad face back on as he turns back around to Jonghyun sitting down and gently pushing his new drink at him. He feels his soul cringe at how much Jonghyun looks like he wants Taemin to forgive him. He feels a casual kick to the back of his chair from Amber behind him and fights against a roll of the eyes. He’s kind of a dick.
“Thanks, Jonghyun,” he says, in a small little voice, taking his new smoothie and taking a little, happy sip. He knows just how to fix this. All he’s gotta do is be cute and snuggly. Jonghyun loves that. He scoots his chair closer and links their arms together, nuzzling against Jonghyun’s shoulder. “I wasn’t really that upset with you,” he smiles. Jonghyun sighs like a wave of relief just crashed over him and Taemin giggles.
“I’d still have bought you a new one anyway,” he says. “You’re just too cute to leave hanging.”
31-Day Summer Challenge: Day 27 - Aquariums (aka i couldve written an actual aquarium fic but i wrote this instead)
“No, Taemin, you just,” Jonghyun says stubbornly, smacking Taemin’s controller away from his hands.
“But--we could just--go right through--” Taemin struggles to get his controller; Jonghyun snatches it up and holds it out of reach.
“No, we’re waiting in line, like the perfectly ordinary dad we are,” he says pleasantly. Taemin groans and slouches in his seat. Jonghyun pats his leg and wiggles his own joysticks so their Octodad wiggles pleasantly in his spot, second in line to get into the aquarium. He doesn’t know if he’s enjoying the game or Taemin’s reaction to the way he’s making them play more. He thinks this way is better, anyway. It takes more skill. More precision. More giggling into his shoulder at how Taemin begged him to let them just bowl over shelves in the grocery store to grab items.
“You’re gonna make people notice us and suspect that we’re not a perfectly normal dad,” he says, carefully taking a step forward in line. He gives Taemin back his controller. Taemin sighs deeply and completes his little step with the Octodad’s other leg.
“You’re ruining all of the fun of the game,” he grumbles. Jonghyun snorts dismissively.
“Are you kidding?” he asks. “Waiting in line is fascinating.”
Taemin wails loudly and flops all over Jonghyun, wiggling intensely. Jonghyun is sure that he’s making sure to be as obnoxious and heavy as possible. Jonghyun grins and heaves him into a more comfortable position, one where his elbow isn’t digging into his chest and his head isn’t blocking the breeze from the fan.
“Look, we’ll do it your way after, okay?” he says. “And we’ll--ooh! Time to move go up in line,” he sings. He moves his leg forward, then waits for Taemin to finish whining like he’s been gravely wounded and move his leg as well. He places their ticket gently onto the counter for the man behind the glass and smiles proudly of himself. Not a second later, a little chime sounds and a trophy pops in the upper left corner of the screen. “No Cutsies,” he reads. “Look at that,” he says brightly, nudging Taemin’s shoulder. “See what acting like a perfectly normal dad gets us?”
Taemin groans and rolls off of Jonghyun’s lap and onto the floor.
31-Day Summer Challenge: Day 26 - Fountains (aka they make a bet)
“Bet I can.”
“Do it then.” Jonghyun flaps his hands imperiously; Taemin scoffs and turns up his nose. Like he can’t do it. He can totally do it. He’s gonna do it. He turns his nickel around his fingers and eyes up the distance between them on this bench and the fountain in the middle of the boardwalk. It’s around twenty feet. Piece of cake. He lifts his arm, winding up for the shot, and--
“Well--you have to make a wish first,” Jonghyun says, interrupting his throw and ruining his concentration. Taemin almost drops the nickel before he catches it up in both hands and glares at Jonghyun. Jonghyun just looks back at him like he’s the one being so completely unreasonable. He humphs. Rude.
“Fine then. Give me a quarter,” he demands, holding his hand out. Jonghyun blows a puff of air through his lips.
“A quarter,” he mutters, digging in his pocket anyway. “What kind of wish costs a quarter?” He takes out the coin and puts it in Taemin’s hand. Taemin snatches it away and makes a big show of inspecting it like it might be fake, just to make Jonghyun pout.
“The important ones,” he says. “Now shush.” He sizes up the distance again, judges his shot, makes sure to close his eyes and make a wish, and throws.
The quarter sails twenty feet through the air and lands with a barely audible splish in the water. A couple of teenagers sitting on the rim of the fountain clap in appreciation as Taemin grins smugly and crosses his legs, lacing his fingers behind his head.
“Told you I could do it,” he says proudly. He turns his head lazily to look at Jonghyun, who’s still looking at where his coin disappeared into the water with a look of mild wonder.
“Yeah, well,” Jonghyun says, shrugging and nudging his shoulder. “What did you wish for?”
“That I would make the shot,” Taemin says happily.
“Wh--what--” Jonghyun splutters, looking horribly affronted. “That’s cheating,” he says, jabbing an accusing finger against Taemin’s chest. Taemin flaps a hand dismissively.
“It is not,” he says. “You’re the one that told me to make a wish.”
“Yeah, but, not a cheater wish,” Jonghyun whines. “Where’s your nickel? You have to do it again. Without cheating.” He’s grabbing at Taemin’s pockets, papping his clothes and searching him with a determined pout. Taemin lifts his empty hands innocently.
“I already threw it, with the other one,” he tells Jonghyun. “I made two wishes.”
“You--hmph,” Jonghyun grumbles, crossing his arms. He uncrosses them soon after and starts digging in his pocket for another coin to make Taemin try again. “What else did you wish for?” he asks.
“I wished that you would kiss me,” Taemin says simply, folding his hands in his lap. Jonghyun pauses in his pocket digging to squint suspiciously at Taemin. Taemin just blinks innocently back. He can see the internal struggle going on in Jonghyun’s head--make Taemin throw a third coin, or let it go and kiss him. Taemin already knows the answer. He’s pretty sure Jonghyun does too, but it’s cute how he pretends to struggle with himself for so long before finally giving up.
“Big huge cheaty cheater,” he grumbles as he tugs Taemin closer to press their mouths together.
31-Day Summer Challenge: Day 25 - Lazy Days (aka taem wont go to sleep)
Jonghyun sighs, rubbing his cheek into his pillow.
“What, bae?” he mumbles. The last time he cracked open his eyes to check the time, it was almost two in the morning. Taemin’s been ruminating again. He does this sometimes, stays up late thinking too much about things that piss him off, telling Jonghyun about them and keeping them both up. Jonghyun doesn’t think it can be considered very healthy.
“When anti-choice people don’t even realize that they’re--”
“Okay, no,” Jonghyun says. He lifts a tired hand to smoosh over Taemin’s face. “I’m not talking about abortion with you at two in the morning.” They’ve had this conversation many times, they’re both on the same page about it, and if he starts now, Taemin will keep going for at least another twenty minutes. He’s not doing it. Taemin frowns against his hand.
“But--”
No,” Jonghyun repeats. “Shoosh.” He heaves himself to roll over and lie on top of Taemin. Then he frowns against his shirt and wiggles off. Too hot. He rests his head on Taemin’s bicep instead and slides his arm over his chest. “Sleepy thoughts. Happy thoughts.” He yawns into Taemin’s sleeve. “Lie here, and snuggle me, and touch my butt,” (He takes Taemin’s free hand in his and guides it to his butt) “and think about happy things. Like me, and my butt, and how much you love me, and also my butt, and how nice of a day we’re gonna have tomorrow.”
“Hmm?” Taemin’s still preoccupied, fidgeting and tense, but he’s patting Jonghyun’s butt anyway. Jonghyun takes that as a sign of progress. He wiggles a little bit closer to get more comfortable.
“We’re gonna have a good day tomorrow,” he mumbles. “See, I’m gonna wake up first, probably at like… eleven, I guess…. And then you’re gonna wake up, but you’re not gonna want to wake up, so we’ll just lie here and snuggle for a little bit, and you’ll be really cute.”
“I’m always cute,” Taemin says. Jonghyun nuzzles against his shoulder instead of replying to that.
“Eventually we’ll want breakfast or something, so we’ll go do that,” he says instead. “A nice big breakfast. Eggs and bacon, and… french toast, maybe, and crepes.” He’s making himself hungry. “You’ll have to make the crepes, though, because you know I can’t do the swirly thing…. And we’ll have fruit, and powdered sugar, and all kinds of things for our breakfast crepes, and I’ll steal some of your bacon and you’ll hog all of the eggs….” He thinks that little noise Taemin just made was a giggle. He smiles into Taemin’s shoulder and continues on.
“So then we’ll do the dishes, both of us, you’ll wash but I’ll dry and put them--”
“Too much detail,” Taemin mumbles. Jonghyun snorts.
“Sorry, majesty,” he says. Taemin gives his butt a squeeze and he grins. “Anyway… I guess then we’ll go watch some tv, and I’ll sit on the couch and you’ll lie with your head in my lap… but you’ll really just be pretending to watch, and soon you’ll kinda… nuzzle my crotch a little bit, and then my zipper, and then, maybe, you’ll suck my dick a little bit? Hmm?” He presses a kiss to Taemin’s arm; Taemin snorts but doesn’t deny it.
“Your mouth is so nice,” Jonghyun says. “With your pretty lips….” He licks his own lips just imagining how it would feel. “And I’d want you to keep going, take me all the way so I can come down your throat and watch you swallow, but… I’d pull you up and kiss you instead. Because you have the best lips and I’d wanna taste myself on them, so I’ just kiss you for a while, and then I could put you on your knees so I could eat your cute little ass out… maybe finger you open a little bit for my cock….”
“Nnngh.” Taemin reaches up to pap Jonghyun’s head. Jonghyun chuckles.
“Am I giving you a boner?” he asks, reaching down to pap Taemin’s crotch. Taemin hums in confirmation.
“Just skip to after,” he mumbles. Jonghyun gives his arm another little kiss.
“So after,” he continues (Taemin giggles), “we’ll probably be on the floor because I’m bad at couch sex. And I’ll be giving you kissies, and we’ll lay there for a while… and then you’ll start complaining about how you feel gross and sweaty, so we’ll go up to take a shower. And I’ll probably just spend the whole time giving you more kissies, but it’ll be okay. You won’t mind.”
“I won’t?” Taemin asks. Jonghyun can hear the raised eyebrow.
“You won’t,” he confirms, nodding happily. “And then we’ll get dressed, and I’m hoping that you’ll wear that cute blue top with the shoulder holes again, because I really like it and you haven’t worn it in a while.” He nudges Taemin’s side hopefully. Taemin pats his butt in what Jonghyun hopes is an agreeing way. He wiggles a little closer happily before continuing.
“We’d go out, then,” he says. “For a little walk on the boardwalk. Just the two of us, holding hands….” Taemin mumbles that he’s a sap and he bites lightly on his arm. “Maybe we’d stop and get ice cream,” he goes on, like he wasn’t interrupted. “Or sno cones. Yeah. And we’ll sit on the railing over the beach, and let our legs dangle…. I’ll hold your hand and kiss it every now and then, just because I want to. And ‘cause it’s cute.”
Taemin calls him a sap again.
“Maybe we’ll go aaaall the way down to the end,” he says, walking his fingers across Taemin’s chest. “Because Jinki’s supposed to be at the gift shop down there tomorrow, right?” Taemin makes a noise that could either be a yes or a no. Jonghyun thinks he’s falling asleep. “We’ll go there anyway,” he murmurs. “And then we’ll walk back hand in hand… you’ll bump my shoulder, and I’ll bump your hip… people will be jealous because we’re so cute….” He hears Taemin make a little, smug laugh and grins to himself.
“We’ll be hungry again so maybe we’ll stop by Kibum and Minho’s place and crash dinner.” He smiles more thinking of how pissy Minho would get if they actually did that. Kibum wouldn’t mind. He likes any excuse to make more food. “But,” he says, thinking around the boardwalk, “I’ve been wanting to go to that Spanish restaurant by the hat shop lately. So maybe we’ll do that instead. With a cute little table outside, under an umbrella, where we can watch the sunset.” Taemin groans in that way that means Jonghyun’s just being way too sappy; Jonghyun decides that they’re definitely doing that tomorrow. “You’ll eat half of my fries, and I’ll steal sips of your strawberry sunrise….”
“Rude,” Taemin mumbles.
“Shush,” Jonghyun mumbles back. “After that we’ll go home…. Maybe we’ll just sit on the front porch for a little bit and watch the people, and the waves…. But we’ll be tired, so we’ll go back inside soon enough… get changed for bed…. And you’ll be laying here, just like this… I’ll be laying on you, just like this…. My hand might be on your butt next time, though.” Taemin giggles tiredly and Jonghyun noses down the neck of his shirt to place a kiss there.
“None of that’s gonna happen, though, if you don’t shut up and go the fuck to sleep,” he finishes. Taemin snorts, but he also tugs Jonghyun closer and pats his butt a last time, turning his head to sleepily nuzzle into Jonghyun’s hair with a happy sounding mumble. Jonghyun thinks he doesn’t even remember what he was so irritated about in the first place.
“That sounds nice,” he mumbles. It trails off into a yawn and Jonghyun feels his soul relax at the sound. Finally, he thinks as he cuddles up to Taemin’s arm. Sleep.
