Having to constantly admit how poor you are to people who are well meaning, but also well off, is a soul crushingly humiliating experience.

imagine you’re one of Aaron’s highschool classmates. and he’s an okay kid. sometimes he’s a bit rude, maybe too honest or snarky. maybe he’s a bit weird, he flinches at loud noises and gets defensive. maybe he twitches a little during class and you can see he’s sweating but he’s alright. he always tells you what you missed if you skipped class, with an attitude but in detail, and he gets this light in his eyes in biology. he’s an okay dude.

and one day, he shows up and he has his clone with him, and you’re like huh??? i’ve known him for years, wdym he has a brother??? and the brother is INSANE. you hear he went to juvie and he has these weird armbands and he won’t leave his brother’s side and next thing yk there’s rumors he killed their mom? and suddenly Aaron doesn’t seem all that bad after all
