American Football - American Football
February 14th, 2022
Albums Listened To: 41
Current Balance: -4
Today I also listened to this album from American Football. I never bothered to check it out because a lot of midwest emo gets a bit of a bad rap, and this album especially gets turned into a bit of a meme in certain internet subcultures. I knew the opening riff from Never Meant long before I ever knew it was a song from this album just by virtue of it being in a bunch of memes. However, this is a great album. The instrumentation is phenomenal: the guitars are jangly and intricate and the drums are mathy and dynamic. There is a real attention to detail that is apparent in how the instrumentation is arranged and mixed, and every part has room to breathe and its incredibly refreshing. It also goes perfectly with the vocals which are not whiny or shrill like a lot of other emo bands. The lyrics are heartfelt and sincere without seeming cloying or needy and the somber messages fit perfectly with the delivery and the overall tone. There are a few spots where little touches really push the track over the top, like the horns on The Summer Ends and The One With The Wurlitzer, or the subtle vocal harmonies scattered throughout. Overall, an extremely technically sound album that does not sacrifice on the emotion

Update 6/1/18
🎄Christmas Chonk Check 😬
Starting weight: 217lbs
Last weigh in: 181lbs
This weeks weigh in: 189lbs
8lbs of Christmas Chonk...
I’m hoping most of it is bloating from eating dairy and gluten the entire holiday...
Even if it’s not it’s only 8lbs, I’ll get back on track with eating and exercise and hopefully be 181lbs or under by the end of the month.
So I’m starting the Arbonne 30 day cleanse, which is basically what I’ve been doing (no gluten, no dairy, no soy, organic/free range whole foods). I have a shake in the morning replacing a banana and a clementine, I have my main meal at lunch, and I have a shake in the evening instead of my main meal. (It’s a pea based vegan chocolate protein powder so I’m actually super excited to have it)
The most difficult thing about this will be the types of fruit I can have, I can basically only have green apples, lemons, limes, and dark berries. Which sucks because I love fruit.
I’ve also changed my exercise plan for January.
I was originally gonna do arms and abs like before, then I was going to do the Disney Workout Challenge (which is actually really cool and you guys should totally check out @disneyworkoutchallenge for awesome Disney inspired workouts and questions) HOWEVER, during a meal with my boyfriend and his parents, his dad said he was going to challenge himself to run 1000km this year (not really a challenge for him coz he’s in the forces and actually probably runs over that anyway) but I thought to myself I was talking to my mum about doing something like that early last year and never did. So, long story short I’ve challenged myself to do
365 in 365
At least. And this aligns with my 5K goal so I’ve set up my own running plan that I’m gonna start today and I’m gonna aim to run 365km this year. No walked kms count.
So I’m gonna run Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
This week it will be
Sunday: run 1km
Tuesday: walk 1km, run 1km
Thursday: walk 1km, run 1km, walk 1km
