Workshop 4 Character in situation And here, are my final rendered images from the project!  Remembering how to use the lighting in maya proved to be an exceptional challenge, but thankfully I referenced my notes from the previous time we used lights, and my previous screenshots!  One huge thing, always take screenshots of progress. I cant explain just how much that has helped me in the long run so far!

Year 2 - Core Project 1 Asset Design/Vertex Painting/Refresher I used Alistair’s model he donated of a car to practice vertex painting for the first time, something really quite simple and suprisingly fun! Though I encountered an issue when trying to render Vertex paint, and online tutorials seemed to of been no help. Will continue to experiment with this with my own models in the next week, and hopefully be able to fully render using Arnold with vertex paint.

VR Project 3x3 (Cancelled) Sketches and ideas The idea was thrown around as having a juxtoposition, having the character in the original picture in a futuristic world. This wouldve been fun, but made little to no sense. The idea was also thrown around having the character live in an old monastary, perhaps one long after a technological age had been and gone, with odd carvings on the wall and wires strewn across the floor.  I toyed with the idea of the entrance, not to model, but to get an idea of WHERE exactly this creature lives. If i know where, i can fill it with the correct things. Key things that wouldve been my responsibility wouldve been the dog bed, lead and toy/food area. In my mind the creature the character rides is less of a tool and more of a pet for someone so lonely. Giving it a dog like personality/relationship meant that the inside of the location would look different to being a solo individual, as any dog owner knows! As seen, beds, bookshelves, and even referencing japanese capsule hotels came under observation, just to get a feel for the location. Shame, this wouldve been fun to take to finality!

Core Project 4 Animation Performance This was something I unfortunately missed during Uni hours, and instead have had to learn from scratch at home. It became something I dreaded, as animation seems to be a key weakpoint for me! Though I put it off out of fear, I took the plunge finally and found myself surprised that I was having so much fun!  Though I’ve had some issues with Tween Machine, meaning I simply wasnt able to install it for whatever reason, I continued regardless and had a great time discovering expressions and poses. Lip Syncing is difficult, but certainly enjoyable. Time seemed to disappear while I was working on this, along with my fear. To follow in the next post will be the playblasts of my animation so far.

Character Animation I was happy but unfulfilled with my walk cycle, and decided to attempt a run cycle as well. Thankfully I came across this incredible Zelda model by  Christoph Schoch and just had to give it a try.  I learnt a lot, and though the end result is something im proud of, I noticed after watching the loop a few times that her hand seems to have a life of its own during a few frames! This was a fun and rewarding experience.
