Here is a cast of the little dude we made for the Tool “Parabola” video. I believe this may have been another first in stop motion history (pretty commonplace now, though, due to advancements in 3D printing). Adam wanted an extremely smooth and geometrically perfect puppet for this character. I modeled the character in a 3D program (Lightwave Modeler) and then we had it 3D printed in sections, reassembled, molded and recast in a rigid material (which is what this piece is). The rigid cast was finely sanded for smoothness and then molded AGAIN for the production mold, in which the mechanical armature was placed and silicone objected into, creating the final puppet.
