Birch Barks is a Canadian rock duo. Last November, they put out their debut EP, 4 Tracks, a rockin' collection of, well... 4 tracks. Their sound is pretty straightforward guitar, drums and vocals. It's not bad, and it works out pretty well most of the time, especially for a first release.

What impressed me the most was the solid song writing. These songs are very well written, and the melodies are very good. Also, for being a guitar/drums duo, their music sounds surprisingly full most of the time without (I'm assuming) any bass. That's only a complaint of mine sometimes and it barely happens on this EP, and it happens mostly because of the Lo-fi nature of the recording.

This is a solid EP coming from Birch Barks, and I'm going to be looking out to see what they release in the future. These guys are quite talented, and I can see them improving very much as time goes on. Good job, Birch Barks. B+
