What’re your thoughts on Sonic and the Black Knight, besides that killer gold armor in the end?
As a game I think it's like, fine? Waggling the Wiimote for that long is something that I, as a near 30 year old, will instantly feel a decade older attempting. (Especially with how bad my fucking wrists are.)
That said, narratively? Big top 5 contender in the series. People always talk about how surprisingly dark it is, on the conceit of its messaging, but I always found it extremely...kind. I get the instinct to go "WOAH A KID'S GAME THAT SAYS DEATH IS INEVITABLE" but like. Yeah. Merlina as a villain is so desperately, awfully afraid of death, and it's very much like Sonic as a character not to shield her from the reality, but to still hold out a hand and say "Hey, I know this sucks. But do you really want forever? Do you want all this to fade?" And then he hands her a flower at the peak of its bloom, because God, how pretty right? It doesn't have long, but isn't it so beautiful right now? And agh, idk idk. Making myself tear up a little again.
