I disagree with what you said about writing LGBT stories that are about coming out and stuff. No topic should be off limits. If you do proper research and interviews you can have correct information. Everyone is an individual and these are my OCs and my stories, only I can tell it. I know what these people think more than anyone. I'm doing a lot of work to write my my book and my friend who is gay loves it so much. saying someone can't write a topic because of their sexuality is wrong. Sorry
Part 2: “Also writing a story isn’t speaking over the group, it’s telling a story. Also I wouldn’t speak over people, however I wouldn’t silence myself because some people don’t listen. Stories don’t speak for an entire group. I hope I don’t sound rude. I really like this blog but I feel really strongly about this.“
Don’t feel strongly about this. Feel strongly about doing research and representing the stories and characters well.
You are reacting against something we simply did not say.
I am not sure how to be clearer: the answer was, writing about LGBT characters is fine, and good. Writing about the LGBT EXPERIENCE is probably best left to LGBT writers, but if you decide to go forward, make sure to do your due diligence with research.
This is an advice blog. People write in asking for advice. This blog does not create law or policy, and recommending against something in no way forbids you from doing anything. And we’d never try to even if we could. It sounds like you’re doing the work. So go forth, my friend. Keep doing the work.
