For the future, when I have a spouse and kids

Tell my wife/husband "I love you" every night.

Come up with a cool hand sign for each child. So that when they become too "cool" to give me a hug and kiss goodbye they can just do the sign. Example: saluting, can be a quick, cool, unique way to say "love you." And make it different for each child so it's unique and special for each of them. Then to say I love you to all of them, do the sign language "I love you."

Tell kid if you're not going to tell me what's going on just promise me one thing: that you'll be true to yourself. Also know that keeping things bottled in isn't the best way to solve anything. At least talk to someone, don't be afraid to go to someone for help. It doesn't have to be me, it can be a friend, someone you trust

Ask child everyday either: something new learned that day, something exciting that happened, an interesting thing you saw, if you were happy/mad/sad/excited about something today, something positive that occurred, etc.
