9. “Stop looking at me like that or I'm gonna kiss you.”
---
Alphinaud was reading. A not uncommon sight, but more so now that he was in desperate need of constant distraction from his own emotions and inner turmoil. Of course, even without that he would be reading. They had to try and learn as much as they could about the towers that the Telophoroi were creating, preferably before Fandanial plunged the world into irrevocable chaos.
The sound of the door opening did not draw Alphinaud's attention away from the book in his hands. Nor did the sound of footsteps. The library within the Rising Stones wasn't exactly a hidden secret. It could be any number of people, none of whom Alphinaud wished to speak with. But the heavy sound of someone sitting at the same table as him finally forced Alphinaud to look up. Only for him to be greeted by the sight of Estinien, examining him.
"I didn't mean to disturb you," Estinien spoke, before the silence between them reached an uncomfortable length. Alphinaud felt the familiar but uncontrollable shiver go through him from the low timbre of Estiniens voice. "Return to your book, boy. I am just looking for some quiet and you seem good protection from any unwanted conversation." Alphinaud nodded, although his emotions must have played plain across his face as Estinien huffed a breath. "Of course, if you wished to discuss something, I would be amenable."
"Thank you," Alphinaud nodded, returning his attention to his book. He had nothing he was eager to say, but having the assurance that he would not be bothering Estinien if he did was enough to lighten some of the heavy feeling twisting ugly in his chest.
Alphinaud knew it hadn't even been half a bell before his attention had been well and truly broken by the fact that Estinien continued to stare at him.
“Stop looking at me like that or I'm gonna kiss you.” Alphinaud said, closing his book and looking up to Estinien. He hoped his face was conveying the playful frustration he was aiming for, but he somewhat doubted it. Estinien raised an eyebrow at him, and leant back in his chair.
"You say such threats as if that was not my intention all along."
