So this was difficult, because for many years Marowak was my favorite pokemon. My default username was Marowakmaniac until like 2020, my self insert OC was "The Bonekeeper" basically until I turned like 22. It had an embarrassingly large impact on me, I wanted to do this right. but HOW, when thick club exists? Thick club is an item that doubles the marowak's attack, it's found on marowak and the picture is the same type of bone as marowak's club. Do I bump the CR up in my chart, assuming it has it? do I make a version of marowak that doesn't have a club? In the end I decided to just make Alolan marowak stronger. Cubone and marowak have normal clubs, Alolan marowak was made factoring in the increased attack stat of thick club. I figured that would make the most sense. Alolan marowak should be strong after all, they're based off the Ghost March. Anyway, on to encounter design! - A war has lasted for decades, orcs again the loose collective of local marowak. The marowak will slay the orcs but leave the children, who grow up to return the favor. A young cubone is too weak to fight, but begs the party to end this. Alternatively, the thing is determined to march off to war no matter what the party does, the player's instincts to adopt things driving them to fight the orcs in its stead. - Locals have an uneasy relationship with the tribe of marowak in the valley entrance. The marowak attacking anything that enters thier territory leaves the village protected, but they can only leave through tunnels or the mountain pass. Tunnels that were collapsed by the dragon who took over the mountain pass. With threats suddenly on either side, it's time to leave the valley, and they need the party's protection doing so. - A marowak fell to a hunter, rose again to protect her son. At first she hunted the poachers. Now it stalks the entire clan. Your party member might remember that poacher, banished for necromancy. The marowak couldn't care less, only that the party harbors someone of the same blood. (PS- current favorites are wooper, swinub, brionne, gardevoir, a very specific wurmple named "Bugosaur," and of course cubone. I do love a lot of pokemon though, mostly cute round things and trans things.)
