5 SOMEWHERE | Dirty Chai Toddy

With winter still hanging on (well, everywhere but here in Miami), this one will warm you up if your'e not feeling this weather. Or if you're feeling under the weather. It's a 'spirited' version of yummy chai tea. Drink enough of these and you'll feel better or you won't care if you feel better, at least.  

For the Chai:

8 ounces half and half

4 ounces water

1 cinnamon stick, broken in half

2 black cardamom pods, crushed with a mortar and pestle

5-6 pink peppercorns, crushed with a mortar and pestle

1 1/2 inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and flattened with the flat side of a large knife

2 tablespoons sugar

2 sachets of organic whole leaf black tea

*********************************** For the Dirty Toddy:

2 ounces espresso

2 ounces bourbon

Combine half and half, water, spices and sugar in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer for 8 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. Add black tea sachets and steep for 5 minutes. Remove tea sachets, strain out spices and split chai between two pre-warmed teacups. Add one ounce of espresso and one ounce of bourbon to each teacup. Sit back and enjoy.

5 SOMEWHERE | Cranberry Rosemary Sangria

For us, too many Christmas cocktails are these candy cane striped, whipped up, creamy, sugary confections. Long on the Christmas and short on the cocktail, you know? But this one hits all the marks. A light and fresh sangria with cranberries and sugar-dusted rosemary. You can always add some sparkling wine right before serving for a little more sparkle. This one will definitely let your heart be light. Merry merry!

INGREDIENTS

1 bottle Pinot Grigio

½ Cup white grape juice

¼ Cup Sugar

1 Cup fresh Cranberries

3 sprigs of rosemary

2 granny smith apples, small dice

 DIRECTIONS

1. In a small saucepan, combine grape juice, sugar and 1 cup of wine; bring to a boil. A watched pot never boils so ya might as well take a few swigs of wine while you wait, right? You’re just passing the time. 3. Add cranberries and cook for 30 seconds. When they begin to pop, they’re ready. 4. Strain cranberries, reserving the wine syrup. 5. Add rosemary to hot syrup and set aside to steep. 6. In a pitcher, combine remaining wine, blanched cranberries, and apples. It’s best to chop the apples right before this step. 7. Chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour, then add cooled wine syrup. 8. Garnish with candied rosemary and serve. Now this is how you celebrate Christmas!

5 SOMEWHERE | Purple Rain

With the release of the first new Prince album in ages, we thought it was the perfect time to pay a little tribute to one of our all-time favorite Prince moments:  Purple Rain. With cocktails, of course.

Whip up a few of these drinks that would look right at home at Paisley Park, pop in some throwback Prince with the Revolution, including Sheila E, Vanity, Appolonia and all the rest. Then party like it's... ... Well, you get the rest.  

PURPLE RAIN

INGREDIENTS

1/2 shot Grenadine

1/2 shot Peach Schnapps

1/2 shot White Rum

3 parts Lemonade

3 parts Sweet & Sour Mix

1/2 shot Blue Curacao

PREPARATION

Fill a glass 3/4 full with ice. Add grenadine, peach schnapps and white rum into glass. Then fill with sweet & sour and lemonade. Drizzle around the edge of the glass with blue curacao.

5 SOMEWHERE | The Manchurian

Mixologist Clare Wadsworth created this refreshing and potent tequila cocktail at Williamsburg, Brooklyn's  Baby’s All Right as a part of Opening Ceremony's exclusive #ThirstyThursday drinks recipe series. And it's perfect. Cheers!

INGREDIENTS

.25 oz. Yuzu 1 oz. 100% agave tequila  Kombucha 2 dashes of cranberry bitters Mint

DIRECTIONS 1. Fill a tall Collins glass with crushed ice. 2. Add Yuzu at the bottom, then tequila, then Kombucha. 3. Top with 2 dashes of cranberry bitters on top. 4. Garnish with mint.
