65 days → until season 3 premieres
For 65 days I kept it alive.
It seemed to be perpetually day, as the sun shone down on me, washing me in a light of knowledge. I trained beneath this light. Exercising my mind, letting it expand its capacity to understand words I knew nothing about before. I was prepared to speak in the language of my target. I was improving vastly. They would have never known that I was not one of them.
The village that I reside in currently has very few people who speak the language of my target. As a result, it is difficult to practice. Yet that did not stop me from continuing to do the work. I had a job to do in the future. A trust to earn and then destroy. As was my mission.
Who I work for is no one's concern, not even my own. I have never asked. Asking too many questions could lead to unfavorable consequences. So I don't ask too many questions, but I still learn.
It was important to keep it alive. I was prepared to do anything; all was permitted in reference to this mission. Sometimes I cut it too close. I suffered a blow to the head one day as I was in a terribly crowded place. Music blaring and people of all classes mixing, drinking. (No this did not happen in my village. They are too uptight for such acts). I almost lost control of critical days. But fortunately the shopkeeper in the village let me buy special potions, so I could prevent it from coming for me. I would take the potion and aim for the darkening sky. It approached as a shadow, slowly growing in size and increasing its speed. I'd throw the potion, it breaking on contact like those fire bombs in glass bottles that our entertainment is so found of. Fire is flashy afterall. But instead of fire, out came ice, encompassing the figure rapidly with ice crystals. It would let out furious sounds as it had been foiled. I always would let out a breath, seeing it fog in the cooling air. I shivered as i looked at the figure, before me on the ground, eyes frozen wide open in a glare.
We were friends once... Or maybe we weren't. It was my ticket in for my mission. I should have known to look more closely, but I was fond of the saying about gift horses. I just conveniently forgot that the saying preaches acceptance and graciousness not the goodness of the gift giver or the gift.
I was sitting on a bench in my village, watching people walk by keeping conversation to themselves. In my hands, I was holding an object of the highest form of magic. It glowed. It made a *ding* sound. I looked down at it in curiosity. Who was trying to reach me? That's when I realized what I hadn't done. That's when it started coming for me.
For 65 days I kept it alive.
But now, it seems to be perpetually night and I am haunted. Nightmares plague my wakeful nights, for I can't sleep. My mission has halted in its tracks and I am on my own. As is the nature of this unfortunate organization. I must evade it until I can start training again.
Until then, the owl hunts me.
Almost there!! 👰🏻👭
