"I HATE this book. I HATE it so much I had to get a new hardback copy to read so I could underline all the parts I HATE about it so much and post them on Goodreads. I HATE it with such a passion I also bought copies for all my friends and family, also in new hardback editions, so they could HATE it along with me. When the TV series came on I was so fuming with rage I watched the entire season twice and bought six copies of the DVD, because I could not believe how much I could HATE something. I had spent so much time discussing how much I HATE this, with all my friends, who HATE it too and who all bought copies, I decided to get a George RR Martin tattoo on my buttock to show how strong my HATRED for his work is. There was such a collectivity at the time—like everyone uniting in HATING this together—that some of us formed relationships in HATE. I met my wife at a George RR Martin convention and we got married as one of the characters, reciting parts of the book for our vows, and paid GRRM all our life savings to come read from his HORRIBLE book. VST Mastery Journal

Every month,  the course comes to the end it is at the time to reflect and see what was good or bad. Coming into this month knowing a lot of filmmaking, but there were more to learn. Growing up their was audio, tactical and visual learners. Audio and Visual was kind of learner allows hear and see. This month we had several different assignments the few were to evoke emotions, make visual story telling movie and be apart of a film thesis. These assignments allowed me learn this course called Visual Story Telling.

In this world there are several emotions and it is even harder sometimes in life to express your emotions. Excited was emotion that was evoked in my film. The film showed that a husband was home relaxing from long day work watching television and his wife comes in turns the television off.  Husband was quite upset, but his wife passes him gift. He opens a fortunate cookie that states “it’s a boy” he looks up all puzzle. He then looks up to her phone and see “they are pregnant”. At the moment the emotion of excitement floats in the air and on their faces. They both share excitement and it expressed through body gestures.

The next assignment was to make a visual movie. The hardest part was pitching a movie in class and instructor tell you if your story was green lit. My movie was not right off completely green light he gave few individuals as myself fifteen more minutes to come up with a strong story to convey. By that time those fifteen minutes was over and gave more time to brainstorm a stronger story and it was green lit. That was when I had a solid team that played their vital roles in the film that allowed me to create a short Mockumentary on Filmmaking. Throughout the film there were shout outs to teachers I have taken. Having a crew team and talent behind and back your vision allowed for a film to be executed. The film came out great.

The last assignment was to be apart of film production. Art Assistant P.A. was my role on this production. In this position I worked on team that played several roles in creating and tearing down scenes to evoke a story for scenes throughout the film. Next, in the downtime I was assigned to be a Make Up Assistant. Make Up Assistant helped me to learn a little about make up on filmmaking.  It gets down to the color or type of make up that on film and give right essence of beauty to be displayed on film. It was so interesting that make up had to be retouched a several of times, but through out that process allowed to learn different aspects of filmmaking makeup.  Throughout this process it showed that each department in filmmaking even those small roles gets looked over, but plays a vital role.

Writing this journal showed throughout this course not only learning to make a visual story and evoking emotion it takes an essential tool to make that happen that’s right it is lights.  Lights is one of the essential keys in filmmaking that needs to be in the tool box of film. Knowing what kind of lights is used and type of light allows to know which light should be applied. For the instructor, Van to show us more in depth of lighting in this course allowed to feel more effective. It was applied when constructing my two short film assignments and on the film production. Lights is not the enemy, but a friend knowing the aspects of lights and manipulation of it a film will come out right.
