The Alchemists of olde explained the steps taken in transforming ones self with the star you see above.I’m going to outline the basic journey that Mercury- SEE: Post on Mercury- takes as it moves through the Great Work.
Now, my chart in my Spiritual Journal does not match up with the drawing above but the overall knowledge contained in the picture alone was enough to make me use it. Anyways, here we go:
MERCURY- The substance, the matter to be worked on. According to Hermetic Philosophy this is YOU- Body, Mind, and Soul.This is the Divine Essence that must be transformed.
LEAD- The beginning of blackness. We we think without acting on the Great Work we are weighing ourselves down with sorrow. However, it’s the mistakes we make after receiving mystical knowledge that slowly start to dissolve our egos.
TIN- The color grey that appears after the ego starts to dissolve from the blackness of our being. Tin aspires us to lend a helping hand to humanity and start working for the greater good.
COPPER- The citrine color. It’s here in this state we start to transform our selfish sexua/carnall desire into love and compassion. We start to lead our souls towadrs a state of selflessness.
SILVER- The white color. The soul has been purified.All of our accumulated lessons become food for the Spirit. Our Higher Selves activate and we start moving towards union with God.
IRON- It’s this state in which we start to become red. Why? Iron must be tested and forged in the crucible.In fact you’re already familiar with it’s significance- iron will. However, our raw will alone cannot be used until it’s properly purified. It has to be directed. This is when we start allowing our Higher Selvers to guide us.
GOLD- The final stage which represents the perfection of the soul on every level of existence. Whether it be mind, body, or soul, this “living gold” is seen as a perfected state of being in perfect union with the Divine Order. This is the goal of all alchemists.
