A Brief Update

Heya! Just wanted to provide a quick update just so y'all know I'm still here 😂

Things have been crazy. Here's a list of things that have been happening that I will dive into much greater detail another time:

-trauma work

-lots of meditation and super-mindfulness

-greater understanding of Buddhist/Taoist precepts

-trauma work

-moving out of my old apartment

-said move not going according to plan at all and couch-surfing until I'm able to move into my new apartment next week

-said "move" not being a rejection, but rather a redirection and me going on a Journey

-trauma work. So much trauma work

-school

-RAMA

-spiritual growth and energy upgrades

-working with Skadi more

-having my entire world and view and everything completely changed because of all the trauma work

So yeah! That's what my life has been like this past month or so. Soo much has changed, and is continuing to change. I've learned so much about everything, and myself. I am grateful

Josh's not at all daily anime recommendations - Sakugan

So here's something different. This is a currently airing anime. In fact, it only has one episode out, and it released today. No clue how many episodes it's going to have either, though it'll probably be 12 or 13 because anime is just like that. Having said that, I'm definitely taking a gamble here - plenty of shows have amazing first episodes and then go to shit, but I am confident in this one. Ever since this show was announced in 2019 I've been unreasonably excited for it, and as we inched towards release and more and more promotional videos and teaser visuals were dropped, I felt my anticipation beginning to pay off. Sakugan looked like it was going to be incredible. And yes, after episode 1, I was right on the money.

Within Sakugan's opening 2 minutes I was already more endeared to its two protagonists than any other characters this year - the father-daughter pair of Gagumber and Memempu are equal parts sweet and adorable as they are chaotic and fucking hilarious. Very much a pair that are being set up to grow and develop both as individuals and as a family, and even just what they take from the other within this first episode is damn good.

And then that world, oh my god! First of all it's beautiful beyond description just based on these neon slums and mines alone, but the notion of what lies beyond when we're off to such an amazing start has me genuinely filled with a feeling of adventure! But the mystery and danger feel incredibly tangible too - there are all sorts of hazards and monsters lurking about and I'm not entirely sure the pair's single mech could be cut out for some of the creatures we've seen already.

The visuals are also balancing an amazing blend between fantastic and detailed artwork as well as exaggerated animation that flows just fucking beautifully, and the character designs are so distinctive and expressive and communicate so much so quickly - this show is a genuine treat for the eyes in every single sense. And the soundtrack does so much as well! Grand action pieces, moving emotional tunes, wacky funny bops! The fucking, rapping! It's such a treat that does so fucking much for the show.

In a mere 24 minutes, Sakugan managed to fill me with so much emotions; the glee from the comedy, the thrill and excitement of a new adventure, the joy and marvel of a sprawling world, the vindication of being excited for a show and having it be good, and so much more that I just don't want to spoil. The future is bright, fellas. Watch Sakugan.
