prompt: Hi there! Here's a prompt for you, if you like it: hayffie getting caught sweetly kissing in the penthouse by the other victors (or someone else of your choice).
A Best Friend’s Perspective
Chaff wasn’t having a good day.
But, hey, it was day three of training so, who was, really? He buried his good hand in his pocket to hide the small tremors that came from nerves or exhaustion or age or whatever else he couldn’t be bothered to care about. It wasn’t like he had a spare hand to give the other one a rest. The remaining one was constantly working. He guessed it was normal he was having more and more spells of serious shakes. And, no, he wouldn’t be checking in with the Clinic because neither his sister nor Seeder knew everything about everything despite what they seemed to think.
And there was more urgent than his one remaining shaking hand: like the fact he had a twelve year-old kid who could climb and camouflage well enough but wouldn’t be able to do much else. The boy was more promising, if he had to be real about it, but Rue had gravitated toward him first so Seeder had taken charge of Thresh, which left him with the great question of how to help that kid as much as he could. He wasn’t stupid enough to think Rue could win – although that would be something, wouldn’t it? Take that Finnick, you’re not the youngest victor anymore – not that particular year, not with the Career pack being what it was and not with that mysterious girl on fire in Twelve who was making the whole Capitol talk.
So, yeah, he wasn’t having a good day, all things considered.
Prompt: I have a prompt request (in case it hasn't been done already). I'd love to read about how Haymitch argued with the game makers about Katniss' plastic surgery, and Haymitch and Effie dealing with the consequences of the game together before the kids woke up.
A Real Woman
Haymitch was very familiar with the white corridors of the Games Clinic for having spent enough times in there over the years. It was the first time he ended up arguing with the doctor in the corridor though.
It would have probably been easier if he had been talking to the usual doctor, the one who had been there forever – since before his Games – and who had taken care of every of his little problems ever since. He felt like he knew the guy well enough to be reasonable with him. The guy in front of him? He was young, arrogant and he was sneering down at him like…
“What is the matter?” came the familiar sing-song voice of his escort, quickly followed by the hurried click click sound of her heels on the tiles. “Haymitch, I can hear you shouting from Peeta’s room!”
The rebuke was delivered in a chiding tone but the hand that she slid around his arm, nails digging into his flesh, as soon as she reached him was more of a warning.
Prompt: Ohhhh I love your fics with katniss’s family and Effie but what about tiger mama Effie with Peeta’s parents and brothers?!
A New Home
The silence was awkward as they all loitered outside the house Katniss had picked for herself and her family. They had all toured it together in front of the cameras, his hand locked in Katniss’ because that was the game they were expected to play.
The moment the camera had shut down, Peeta had rushed outside. His family had followed him, probably feeling just as out of place inside with the Everdeens, Haymitch and Effie as he felt.
He watched each of them now and he wasn’t sure what to say, how to bridge the gap. What did you say to people who hadn’t bothered to care if you came back or not? Who had chosen to support the competition more than their own flesh and blood?
Rye, only one year older and now definitely safe from Reapings, had kept his hands in his pockets ever since they had greeted him at the train station, unable to meet his eyes. Peeta knew why, of course, for the same reason he hadn’t been able to come into that room at the Justice Building all those weeks earlier and say his goodbyes. With Katniss having volunteered for her younger sister and him not having raised a finger. Well…
Sorry I forgot today was Wednesday and I completely forgot to post!
This is an umprompted one shot. I got the line from a post reblogged on @the-hayffie-penthouse: “You know, maybe if you actually tried then we wouldn’t be in this mess!”
Debriefing
Effie’s every move was always graceful and poised – a childhood full of strict governesses and etiquette lessons had seen to that much – but she had refined passive-aggressive to an art form and while there was nothing outwardly aggressive to the way she was sipping her cocktail, she was fairly certain Haymitch could perfectly read just how furious she was.
He liked to act dumb and blind but she knew him better than that.
The same way he knew she wasn’t just a pretty face.
Prompt: Ellana, darling! I love thirteen sheep, and I was wondering if I could prompt something based on that. A one shot where Snow finds out about Theo, and Effie has to get him out of the Capitol. The first person she finds who she thinks will help is Chaff. (Or someone else, I just really want Chaff to find out about Theo somehow.)
It’s been a long time since I did something Theo-related. This is kind of a prequel though so you don’t need to read the other stories to understand it (You can find them in that tag though) ;) It takes place a year before Thirteen Sheep.
oh dear lord please do a fic of the 'Imagine person A and person B being on a phone call and A has to go. They mean to say goodbye but they say I love you, only realizing after they hung up. The family in the next room just hears “FUCK!”' ... your tags were hilarious!!
Here you go! [x]
Well, F***.
Elindra pursed her lips as she fixed her tea toher liking, tuning out Lyssandra’s senseless chatter about whatever party shehad been to the previous night. She was usually happy enough to listen to hereldest daughter’s gossip but she was also usually prone to be annoyed by heryoungest daughter’s behavior and that day wasn’t any exception.
She had been more lenient lately, on account ofTwelve’s recent victory.
And who knew that would even ever happen? She had long been advising Euphemia toresign since it was obvious she would never get promoted and, after twelveyears of arguments, her daughter actuallywent and reaped not one but twovictors.
Nevertheless, it was simply bad manners topresent yourself at your mother’s house for tea and then excuse yourself for aprofessional call. Well… Elindra might have excused a professional call but acall to Twelve? They better not beexpected to pay for the additional expense.
Victory Tour or not, she didn’t see what urgentneed Effie had to reach that drunk oaf who called himself a mentor.
She did not like the fascination her youngestdaughter had for that man. She had neverliked it.
“Scones, Mother?” Lyssa asked sweetly when sherealized Elindra wasn’t listening.
With a pang of guilt, since Lyssandra didn’tdeserve to suffer because of her sister’s perpetual folly, she refused with agraceful wave of her hand but softened the refusal with a smile. “What were yousaying about Fanny, dear?”
Lyssandra started again from the beginning and, this time, Elindra made sure to pay attention, nodding and humming in the rightplaces. She was actually getting interested by the latest scandal surroundingFanny Lauriss when the loudest “Fuck!” echoedfrom the corridor.
Lyssa gasped, shocked.
Elindra pursed her lips tighter and glared atthe living-room’s door.
Effie appeared there after a few seconds, paleand not at all composed.
“Do notswear under my roof, Euphemia.” she scolded. “Truly, those ruffians have an awful influence on you. Where are your manners?”
“My apologies, Mother.” Effie answeredmechanically, dropping more than she sat on the couch next to her sister. Herfingers were shaking when she grabbed her cup of tea and Elindra wondered what that was about.
“Is everything all alright, darling?” Lyssaworried. “Are your victors well?”
“Everything is perfectly fine.” Effie clearly lied. “I simply tripped on thecarpet. I am afraid Mother is right, I dospend too much time with Haymitch. I must be losing my mind.”
Elindra huffed but didn’t offer another comment.
°O°O°O°
The words were still echoing in Haymitch’s earlong after the phone had started ringing dead.
It occurred to him she had hung up and he couldplace his phone down now. But those words… She had been calling about the very important matter of the wedding dressesphoto-shoot but she had been at her parents and it had been a shortconversation. She had clearly been distracted, anxious like she always wasaround her mother…
And when he had told her he would call her in afew days to check up on her wedding plans…
‘Alright. I have to dash now or Mother will murder me with the teapot. Goodbye. I love you.’
And she had hung up.
He didn’t even know what to think or what to door…
“Fuck.”he whispered.
It was probably the only word to sum up thesituation.
I want to make your list of prompts even longer, so here we go: Haymitch and Effie are at a party and are already planning to have sex afterwards but when they get back to the Penthouse, they are both really tired and not in the mood, so they just go to bed together to sleep. And it just kind of happens, although it's a big step in their "realtionship". I hope you consider writing it. Thank you in advance!
Hello! I’m going to post the details for the hayffie christmas week tomorrow so keep an eye out! [X]
A Long Night
The sky was turning pinkish when the car linedup in front of the Training Center and Haymitch stopped nuzzling Effie’s neckalmost with relief. Her fingers were lazily squeezing him through his pants butthey withdrew quickly too. She flashed him a teasing smile as she opened thedoor and he forced himself to smirk back.
They had been flirting all night when theyweren’t hunting for sponsors and it had been implied that sexy times would waitfor them at the end of the night. Thing was, the party had gone on forever, long enough in any case for himto actually sober up from his tipsystate – he had promised Peeta hewould keep the drinking to a minimum and, for once, sponsors were taking thebait so he actually as holding up his end of the bargain – he was so tired he didn’t think he could get itup that night. Still, there was a matter of pride there.
The moment they reached the elevator, she wasall over him. Her lips on his throat, her fingers tugging at his clothes…
“How long until the kids get up for Training?”he asked, toying with the zipper at her back.
“Three hours give or take, I would say.” shesighed and then grinned a bit too maniacally. “Plenty of time for a quickie.”
She rose on tiptoes to kiss him but he drewback a little, studying her. He knew Effie like the back of his hand. She mightbe a mystery to everyone else, she might manage to fool everyone else, but he knewher. He knew when she was faking and right then she was faking.
“You’re dead on your feet.” he accused.
She stared back at him, her grin slowly turninginto a pout. “We said we would have sex.”
“Not quite how I worded it.” he snorted. He hadsaid he would fuck her. Not have sex.
Her pout deepened.
“I am tired.” she admitted. “But we are not oldpeople. We cannot stop having sex.”
The elevator chimed but they didn’t make anymove to step out.
He made a face. “We could sleep three hours, sweetheart. You know how much sleep we’re gonna get once the Games start? If itgoes how we want and we can save one of them… None.”
“You have neverrefused me before.” she complained. “If you are getting bored of me just say itplainly. Do not go and invent excuses.”
He rolled his eyes. “Oh, come on. I’m too soberfor this shit.”
The elevator doors started to close and heslipped between them, annoyed to hear the chime that signaled she had forcedthem to reopen and was following close by. By mutual tacit agreement theyremained quiet in the corridor not to wake anyone. He wasn’t surprised when shewalked into his bedroom and closed the door behind him.
“Look, you’re not tricking me into fightingwith you just so I fuck you againstthe wall.” he spat. “We’ve got three hours before we have to deal with the kidsand the girl’s so fucking thick she’s giving me a headache so we’re gonna sleep, Effie. That’s not open fordiscussion. Get naked and get between the sheets.”
She crossed her arms in front of her chest, clearly torn between protesting and giving in to the exhaustion she must havefelt. “You want me to sleep here with you?”
She aimed for detached, he saw that clearly butit ended up sounding strangely vulnerable.
They didn’t sleep together unless it happenedby accident and certainly never without having sex beforehand. They had neverclimbed in the same bed just to sleepbefore. It toyed with a line that was a little too dangerous for comfort.
But the idea of lying between cold sheets witha bottle of something wasn’t exactly appealing. They had a shot that year. Forthe first time in twenty-four years, Twelve had a shot and he felt… cautiously hopeful – which, for him, wasa lot. And Effie was his ally, his partner, and he didn’t want to be alone.
“As long as you shut up and let me sleep.” hegrumbled, unbuckling his belt and dropping his pants. The shirt, he tossed onthe chair already buried under dirty clothes. He kicked his boxers off andclimbed into the unmade bed, sprawled on his stomach, his head turned away fromher.
He heard the ruffle of fabric but he resolutelydidn’t look. He kept his eyes closed and pretended to sleep. He didn’t make anymove to acknowledge her presence even when she draped her naked body over his, resting her cheek between his shoulder blades and hooking her knee over hisbutt.
He reached under the pillow and nudged theknife off the bed just in case.
“Goodnight.” she purred, sounding very pleasedwith herself.
He would fuck her when he woke up, he decided. That would teach her.
