I’m meming the Music Man again
One Dress a Week Challenge
September: Pink
The Music Man / Shirley Jones as Marian Paroo
This dress just looks as cool and summery as a dish of strawberry ice cream! As a bonus, the middle picture shows Marian in the midst of a veritable sea of pink dresses.
The top photo shows both the frothy lace underskirt and the patterned overskirt--I can't quite tell whether those are strawberries or rosebuds. Then there's another sheer layer over that, with the cross-your-heart bodice design and half-sleeves.
The only thing I can't quite make my mind up about is the greenish-grey scarf or sash at the waist. I like how it provides a break between the bodice and skirt, and the color sort of grounds the whole thing, especially in the middle photo. But I'm not sure the asymmetrical shape works for me, especially in the top picture, where it just weirdly disappears at Marian's right side.
lines in 76 Trombones where you can tell harold hill is full of it with no further context if you know anything about marching band:
"they were followed by rows and rows of the finest virtuosos" virtuosos of what. a virtuoso describes a player's ability not what they play
"there were copper bottom tympani in horse platoons" if this was a ceremonial band playing on a bandstand sure there can be timpani but for an actual marching band that's doing a parade you can't really have real timpani cause they're too big to move as you march, and modern marching timpani are pretty recent. i don’t really buy the “they were on horses” argument either cause there’s very few sources i can find of this happening and the pics i can find don’t really look like timpani either
"double bell euphoniums and big bassoons" i'll give you kudos on this one professor double bell euphoniums are a real (if obscure) marching instrument that did exist in the 1910s however no one would (reasonably) ever put a bassoon in a marching band ever
"and trumpeters who'd improvise, a full octave higher than the score" you would never let someone just improvise over an entire band, especially not and entire section. especially not the trumpets they don't need the ego inflation
"and i modestly took my place as the one and only bass" what. bass what, harold. there are no basses in a band.

This time for
The Music Man
I literally only just noticed that “Goodnight My Someone” and “76 Trombones” are the same tune. You’d think I’d notice since they sing both at the same time at one point but to be fair I haven’t seen The Music Man in years
