-Tips for traveling around Japan-
1) Wi-Fi
I saw a big rainbow this morning. It’s been a while since I’ve been in Japan.
Speaking of Japan, there is nothing better than Japanese food. Sushi, nabe which is a variety of Japanese hot pot dish, tempura, mochi, and aduki beans sweets. And the temples, mindfulness meditation, onsen - the hot spring spa and many more. I prefer the winter in Japan which is generally dry & sunny.
One of the down sides of travelling in Japan used to be the Wi-Fi solutions for visitors. They had strict restrictions on mobile phone contracts that were very complex. It was almost the only country I could not use a SIM free iPhone.
Apparently, they’ve just started a variety of SIM free deals. Possibly for the coming summer Olympics, next year in 2020. I’ve not tried this yet, so I will report on that later.
Pocket Wi-FI rental is impressive and very fast. You can watch movies on YouTube and talk on Skype without a problem. Although they can let us to set up the contract as easy as possible, I must warn you about the perils of online shopping nowadays. One wrong click could end up costing you quite a bit.
I used just 3 days of pocket Wi-Fi. Without realizing, I had seemed to click 2 companies’ contracts, when I’d compared between them. I asked the taxi driver to stop by a red postbox and posted a rental pocket Wi-Fi on my way to the Airport. Happily I went on board. 6 months later, when I returned, I saw an unopened envelope from the pocket Wi-Fi company, on my desk. I ended up paying ¥28000, which is the equivalent of $300. It was supposed to be $3000, but they decided to charge me 10% of the actual cost.
You may end up raising a huge debt in Japan, under such a condition. Certainly, no more Japanese pocket Wi-Fi rental for me!
The best solution I really recommend, is the ‘7spot’ at 7-ELEVEN. It is one of the Japanese 24/7 convenience stores. You can use their free Wi-Fi maximum for 1 hour, 3 times a day. Every store I went to, the Wi-Fi worked fine and was the simplest solution for me. Their food is generally good quality. The ¥100 fresh coffee is the best of all Japanese convenience stores. For some reason, they are not the nearest convenience store to the stations. But they are hidden around corners. I recommend looking for their signposts, unless you are carrying heavy luggage:

1）Wi-Fi について
今朝、大きな虹を見た。久々の日本だ。
日本と言えば、楽しみは食べ物だーお寿司、鍋物、天ぷら、お餅に羊羹など、又お寺や神社、マインドフルネスな瞑想、天然温泉、他にも色々な良い事がある。日本の冬は、比較的快晴が多く湿気も無いので、わたしは冬の方が好きだ。
これまで、ひとつだけ不便だった事は、海外旅行者のWi-Fi 利用についてだ。SIM フリーが簡単に使えない上に、各通信会社の複雑な契約内容と期間の制限があった。
最近、SIM フリーが解禁になったらしい。恐らく、来年に迫ったオリンピックの開催に備えての事だろう。まだ試してはいないので、この情報は試してから、お知らせしようと思う。
日本のポケットWi-FIレンタルは、スピードも速くてとても便利だ。問題なくYouTubeの動画鑑賞やSkype 電話が十分できる。そして、受注から返却まで、至って簡単にできるのだが、昨今のオンラインショッピングには、危険が伴う。ほんの１クリックの間違いが、高価な支払いに繋がってしまうので要注意だ。
前回、ほんの３日間だけ借りたのだが、2社を比較した時に、気づかずに、うっかり2社ともクリック契約されていたらしい。羽田空港に向かう途中で、タクシーの運転手に郵便ポストで車を止めてもらい、しっかり返却を確かめてから出発したはずが、半年ぶりに戻ったら、机の上に未開封の見慣れたWi-FIレンタルの封筒が置かれてあった。そして、使ってもいないデバイスの延滞料金として28000円を支払った。本来なら、その10倍の280000円のところを、社内会議で10％の請求と決定されたそうだ。このシステムでは、日本を去った後に、多大な借金を抱える事にも成りかねない。わたしは金輪際、日本のポケットWi-FIレンタルは利用しないつもりだ。
わたしのお勧めは、セブンイレブンの‘7spot’にかぎる。日本の年中無休コンビニフランチャイズ店の一つだ。セブンの店内では一回につき１時間まで、一日３回、無料でWi-FIが使える。日本中どこのセブンでも、Wi-FIが使えた。セブンは、食べ物も良質で美味しい。100円コーヒーも一番味が良い。但し、なぜかセブンは、駅構内や周辺には無い。でも、すぐ近くにあるはずなので、余程重い荷物を持っていない限り、探してみる価値はある：
