After the summer break, we are rehearsing again. We'll hit the stage at WFR-Malafest in Palosco in a couple of weeks and Saturn is a song we play every time even because it is the single we used for Iconoclasm. It's the hardest song on Iconoclasm for me. I put some runs and tricky parts that took me a while to be managed and they are still fun to play. It's also the only song I have recorded so far that has some slap passages; it's not a technique I like but sometimes it sounds good. BTW We're still looking for a drummer to play with us. IT'S DONE!!! Bass recordings for "Nocturnal Transfiguration" ep are over. There will be a bass solo and some tapping, of course. I'll take just a couple of days of break and then I'll focus on the other tons of music I'm working on. After the last playthrough, I had some questions about my "chain of sound". Very simple! The bass is directly into the Tascam US-100 and I use Reaper on PC. I like to keep the bass as dry as possible so no effects, no other things added when I do all the playthroughs. When it comes to eps and albums you should ask Andrea for details but he uses the less possible. Live too I go directly through my Mark Bass head with no effects. "Red Gaze" taken from our Iconoclasm album. This song was written using riffs by Peter and I and it's the closest one to the American school of death metal. We are the bad guys of the band. In the beginning, it was called Insignificanza (Meaninglessness in Italian), and it had lyric in Italian too. Once in the studio, we decided to keep it instrumental. In this one too I didn't make any change after the recordings. I'm not used to writing such personal things here but today is a special day: my father would have turned 74 if he were still alive. He never approved of me playing nor liked the music I did... yet today, after more than 15 years that he is gone... I wish that, wherever he is, he could be at least a bit proud of me and what I do. What is the first thing that you think when you hear "England"? For me is not Maiden nor Priest, not even the immortal Queen nor De Profundis (sorry guys, you're amazing but...), nor Carcass, neither Bolt Thrower nor whoever else. For me "England" means "Bal-Sagoth". They are the hell of a band and I had to pay tribute to them. This is "Of Carnage and a Gathering of the Wolves" off of The Power Cosmic album. This song has some of my favorite riffs. What I like the most are from 4.12 to 4.39 and from 5.02 to 5.28. They are perfect! This time I played something mine: my playthrough of "Forgotten Wisdom" off of Iconoclasm, our second album. I chose this one 'cause it's the one that sounds more similar to the new stuff we're working on right now. I made some little changes here and there like in the first riff and I played the tapping part on the higher strings while originally it was recorded on a 6-strings bass. It was the 5th of September 2019 and we were at Elfo Studio mixing the album. In the control room, there is a nice window, just above the mixer, where you can see outside and stay relaxed. That afternoon there was a storm and we could see the bolts of lightning and the intro of Forgotten started. You know, in the studio the volume is really loud... we almost shitted in our pants thinking that was the storm outside!
