Day 7 - Study tips
22.01.2017
Hi people!
Happy sunday to you all. Today I bring you a 8 tips list to start studying well since the beginning of the semester. These tricks are basics, thought to start the semester with desire and energy. Go to your goals!
1. Go to class: okay, that first tip may sound a little obvious, but it’s perhaps the most effective. Going to class will not only helps the teacher to know you and see your interest in his subject. Being active and participate in the class also helps your brain to retain information, so when you start studying it will be much easier understand and remember what you’re reading.
2. Find your study place: it can be a public library, your campus, your room, a coffee shop… actually it doesn’t matter. You have to find the perfect place for you. It will depend on you, on how you study and how you focus:
if you prefer to walk or talk aloud, order your desk and stay at home
if you are looking for a quiet place where you can concentrate, go to a public library
if you study better with classmates or friends, go to the study rooms of your campus
if you don’t care so much about the noise and you like to enjoy a good fresh coffee or something to snack on, you can go to your favourite coffee shop
It also depends on the work you have to do: an essay, a group-work, reading a few articles, studying for an exam… You can try several places, until you find the one where you feel more comfortable studying and where you give more and better.
3. Use an agenda or a calendar: the best way to plan your week, the whole month or even the entire semester is to use an agenda. It doesn’t matter if it’s a daily, weekly or monthly agenda, if it’s colorful and beautiful or just a normal notebook, but you should use something to target your taks, your exams, your essays…. Having an agenda will help you to be more organized and to carry your tasks up to day, so no more chaos!
4. Use colors: this may sound a bit cliché, but use color highlighters and pens to underline or emphasize the most important phrases and ideas will help your brain to fix information faster than just reading, and to associate colors with certain information. That’s why I recommend you to use specific colors for certain data (for example: green for people names, purple for dates, blue for cities, orange for remarkable information… or whatever you prefer). This tip works especially for people with visual memory.
5. Make schemes or summaries: they don’t have to be perfect schemes with beautiful handwrite and many colors and drawings, you can do bungler schemes with fast and messy handwrite. Remember that a good summarie must to have keywords and be sorted by sections. And rewrite what you’re reading, what you’re trying to learn, helps your brain to keep the information without any problem too.
6. Discuss the temary with your classmates: talk with your friends or your classmates about what you’re studying, ask questions among all and complete the information you know. Repeat aloud newly acquired knowledge and discuss them with other people helps not only to retain information quickly but also to clarify ideas that flutter in your brain. Also, your friends help you with the hardest themes for you, after all, they’re your friends!
7. Do not lie to yourself: that’s the simplest advice, but sometimes it’s also the most difficult to meet. When things don’t go exactly as we want, we tend to alter the reality, lie to others and, at last, lie to ourselves. But it’s important to remember what we’ve done, how much we’ve actually worked and what else could we do to improve or results. You can lie others about your work, but be honest with yourself. Always. It’s the only way to reach your goals.
8. Take care of your health: that’s the last tip, but take it as the first. Take care of you, of your body and your brain. Sleep well, between 6 and 10 hours per day (preferably not less than 8), eat healthy (do not skip ANY food, especially the breakfast), drink water (1'5 or 2 litres per day) and use natural cremas for your skin. Also, take special care of your mental health, never force yourself to go or to do something so stressful that your brain can’t stand it. Always remember: health is first.
