Terezi and Vriska both question their identities as trolls when they find out they're not the ruthless killers their society expects them to be. Terezi question her dedication to justice, upon which she built her entire identity, when that justice leads her to kill the person she loves most in the world and instead of things being right afterwards she just feels horrible. Vriska couldn't be Mindfang, the ruthless ancestor she based her identity around and she couldn't be the hero she wanted to be because she always made all the wrong choices and people didn't believe in her enough. But in the end at least they had each other.

Terezi and Vriska both feel the same way about this, but since they both think it’s the wrong way to feel for a troll (and everyone thinks Vriska’s crazy about murder anyway) they only talk to John and Dave about it, who can provide 0 helpful advice since they’re human. 

the truth was they needed each other all along and if they’d just talked about it they could’ve avoided every problem that happens next. it’s why Terezi sending John back to knock Vriska out is so effective, i’d have loved to see their first conversation after it happens
