I calculated the average rating of each 911 season on imdb
(count all ratings then divide by number of episodes) and it really shows how fucked up season 8 was.
Season 8 has mostly ratings above 8, season 7 only has 2 and season 6 also doesn't have many. Yet still, season 8 has the lowest average rating given that at least 3 episodes have under 4 stars.
Here is the data, first rounded up then two numbers behind the comma.
Season 1: 8
Season 2: 8,3 (8,29)
Season 3: 8,2 (8,16)
Season 4: 8 (7,99)
Season 5: 7,7 (7,72)
Season 6: 7,7 (7,66)
Season 7: 7,7 (7,67)
Season 8: 7,3 (7,34)
Number of episodes 8 or higher:
Season 1: 6 out of 10, highest is 8,4 (1x04)
Season 2: 16 out of 18, highest is 9 (2x13)
Season 3: 12 out of 18, highest is 9,2 (3x02)
Season 4: 8 out of 14, highest is 8,7 (4x14)
Season 5: 7 out of 18, highest is 8,6 (5x16)
Season 6: 4 out of 18, highest is 8,2 (6x11 and 6x12)
Season 7: 2 out of 10, both are exactly 8 (7x03, 7x06) though it is worth noting that 3 episodes are 7,9
Season 8: 12 out of 18, highest is 8,8 (8x09)
Last year the season finale also had very low ratings but now has a 7,3. HOWEVER that low rating, then the very lowest of the entire show, was 6,8. I don't think season 8's 3.7, 3.2 and 2.9 will ever reach 7.
Season 8 has the same amount of 8 or higher rated episodes as season 3, which has an average rating of 8,2 which is the second highest average rating. Yet season 8 dangles at the bottom with a 7,3, the lowest average rating.
Now, does this have influence? Probably not. ABC etc do not dare for IMDb ratings. So you can complain about review bombing but it's not like it'll suddenly make ABC cancel it. And even then, 911 mostly has episodes rated 8 or higher, they won't cancel based on a few below 4. If you look at other shows, those often have more lower rated episodes, between 5 to 7.5 and those are perfectly fine and get renewed. So mostly the low ratings are for fans to show their frustration (which will be ignored by the show).
*this is all based on the data as I'm writing this, May 16th '25 at nearly 7pm european summer time. Like last year, things will probably change as more people watch the show now that the season is over and/or it becomes more available internationally.
