I’ve seen people question why Carlos was so seemingly flippant when he got called to see TK in the ICU. Why he wasn’t immediately showing concern given it’s the ICU. But think about it this way, TK has been hospitalized twice already since he’s been in Texas and one of the times they had to wait to see when he would wake up and how he would be. I think in Carlos’ mind if TK is awake and asking for him then he can’t be as bad off as he’s been before. Plus I think when you love someone it’s hard to imagine anything happening to them. I think that regardless of what happened to break TK and Carlos up they both have hope that they’ll sort things out eventually. So when Carlos comes in the ER he’s not thinking TK could die without knowing he still loves him he’s thinking finally TK wants to talk to him and work things out. But given where they stand at the moment he naturally didn’t want to seem too eager. So his attitude when he’s talking to Nancy (at first) isn’t one of not caring it’s just Carlos with his guard up.
I have mixed feelings about that ending because it felt like it was mostly about TK and none of it was about Carlos’ feelings. It’s great to see that Carlos was supportive of TK and his sponsor but where was the flip side to show TK trusting and opening up to Carlos?
As I already wrote in another post I’ve been with an addict I get that there things that they need meetings and other addicts for because non addicts won’t always understand but TK was pretty much keeping all of his addiction stuff separate from Carlos and that’s not fair to Carlos. Carlos getting jealous wasn’t cool but I think it was less about jealousy (like worrying about TK cheating) and more about feeling left out. I don’t think Carlos would have been feeling the way he was if TK communicated to him more about what was going on with him.
TK is an addict and he will always be an addict even if he’s clean in 20 years he’ll still be an addict it’s one of the things people learn in AA/NA. Being an addict and staying sober and the history TK has had will always affect him and by extension Carlos. If TK were to relapse and actually start using again then that would impact Carlo’s life in a huge way. My point is that if TK and Carlos are going to build a life together then TK can’t just close off that part of himself from Carlos because it impacts Carlos’ life too. I just wish the show would have let them talk about some of this more and not just make seem like Carlos needed to be more supportive because that wasn’t the real issue in my opinion.
I’ve been with someone who had a substance abuse problem and I gotta say these scenes are really hard to watch. I feel like they’re making Carlos look a little too much like the bad guy here. It’s really hard when you feel like your partner is keeping such a huge part of their life from you.
I get TK needing to talk to people who have the experience and who can help him in ways that Carlos can’t but part of being a good partner means including your partner in your life even the dark difficult parts of it. TK needs to understand that Carlos just wants to feel like TK trusts him and needs him and wants to share these parts of his life with him at least to some extent. I honestly think that TK is ashamed of being an addict and so is trying to compartmentalize that part of his life from his life with Carlos and you can’t have a health relationship that way.
Okay so when are we getting an episode when Carlos is in danger and TK is worried he might not make it?
Great let’s call a fat guy lard ass. 😒 Do the writers not realize you can have asshole or villainous fat characters without making everything about their weight?
I like the content we’ve gotten of Tarlos in these ice storm eps but I can’t help but feel like as a couple they don’t get as much development as they should or that they might if they were a straight couple. Like there’s a lot we didn’t see in the beginning of their relationship and now they had a big breakup but we didn’t really see much of it and it was resolved without them really getting to talk about anything. I just keep feeling like we’re missing out on important parts of their journey as a couple. Like why does so much of their story seem to take place off screen?
I’m sorry but I can’t stand Dave. He makes me want to slam my face against a wall. If I had to work with someone like him I’m pretty sure I’d get fired for telling him off in a big way. I know they put him in for comedic relief but it stops being funny for me when no one ever calls him out on his shitty inconsiderate behavior.
