Summary:

"All right," Ravi says as Eddie watches Buck pull the first one glove on and then pass the other to Ravi to help him put it on. "Spill." Eddie is not jealous, Eddie is not jealous, Eddie is not jealous. "Spill what?" Buck says, but he has a goofy shy grin on his face that Eddie recognizes. Shit. Buck got laid. Eddie knows Buck, and Buck? Definitely got laid. "I slept with both of them," Buck says, testing out his glove where Ravi tightened it for him, like those words have any context for Eddie. He's not jealous. He's definitely not jealous.

Or: Eddie is jealous that Buck is hooking up. It's because he never got to, right?

He always loses his helmet; that’s not really a surprise. If anything, it’s expected. The department would probably be more upset about the loss of equipment than they actually are if Buck were a less skilled firefighter. But Buck’s skill doesn’t stop Eddie from worrying. Buck grins tiredly, chest heaving from exertion. Eddie beckons him over and places a hand on his shoulder blade the moment he’s close enough. “Alright, let me check you out,” he says, hiding his worry. It’s unwelcome here, and it would be too if their situations were reversed.

Buck sits in the back of the ambulance and lets Eddie look him over. There are no major injuries, so Eddie wipes the blood, sweat, and dirt off his face, stitches closed the small gash over his eyebrow, then puts some arnica gel over the bruises on his torso.

“All set, Dr Diaz?” Buck asks—quips—after Eddie’s done, when they’ve just been sitting in silence for a while, Eddie’s eyes unable to leave Buck’s even now.

“Yeah,” he murmurs, “all done.”

Buck smiles again, but he doesn’t leave. He doesn’t look away either.

Eddie holds his gaze and breathes.

Tidbit Tuesday (shh if it’s technically Wednesday no it isn’t)

This is from another fic I’m working on for @911versebingo for the “didn’t know they were dating” square. Tagged by @circledwithaheart 💖

Buck's in love. Eddie can tell. He's his best friend, and he knows what it looks like when Buck's in love. That face he's making right now? That's his in love face.

And Eddie's devastated. He didn't think it would hurt so much, but it's taking a lot out of him to be so in love with Buck. He's not sure he's going to make it much longer. And fuck, if he has to see Buck start dating someone new, has to watch them get engaged, has to watch them getting married while Eddie stands at Buck's back and quietly dies…oh yeah, he's going to wither away, actually.

"I want you to adopt Chris," Eddie says like the wind, letting it all rush out of him like he's scared of the words themselves. Like this hasn't just completely thrown Buck's existence for a loop.

"Huh?" Buck asks stupidly when the words are decidedly nothing to do with Buck moving out.

"The will," Eddie says by way of explanation, as if that clears anything up.

Or: Eddie asks Buck to marry him so that Buck can legally adopt Chris in the state of California. Buck spirals and has conversations with friends and family.

It wouldn’t, of course, so it was a good thing Eddie didn’t have one to give him. He laughed softly. “No third thoughts either.” Or, Buck and Eddie get married. They're both a little nervous, but they don't actually have anything to worry about.
