chat vote for which a levels I should do bc I can't choose for the life of me

im definitely doing history and classics but I can't choose between French and English lit

pros of French - it's better for uni applications, better for international relations which I want to do at uni, I'm quite good at French, I like reading so the books bit will be fun, it's interesting to learn about frnech culture and society

cons of French- I hate speaking with a burning passion and it's a big part of the a level, I will probably struggle more with it and have to work a lot harder at it

pros of English- I love the teacher I'd have, I love reading, I love writing essays and doing analysis, I'd really enjoy it, loads of friends in the class, I'm good at it, I enjoy revising it, love the texts they do at a level, I could probably do better in English with less work and obviously a better grade is good for university

cons of English- my teacher this year (at the school I'm currently at but I'll be moving schools) basically bullied me and made me hate the subject and I had to get a tutor bc she destroyed my confidence, I don't really like the exams for English lit

so with all that taken into account: english or french

Language A-levels are mental. Within the space of a year, you go from learning about being a good citizen and the structure of family in your country/countries of study, to learning about THE OIL CRISIS OF '73 and THE VARIOUS ATROCITIES AND WAR CRIMES committed over a hundred year period.

Exam Diary Day 6 - 13.06.22

Hi! I had two exams today so not my favourite, but I thi k they both went OK and it's the only time I have two in one day thankfully! French reading, writing and listening went pretty well aside from the technical issues with headphones, but it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be so that was good and the translations were pretty good! Latin prose lit was also good, 20 mark question was a little open ended for me but it was good to have the freedom with it. Also don't think I ever appreciated how many death threats cicero can fit into one chapter....

Today I:

Revised all the cicero chapters

Read through some medea

Mostly just sat exams and had to rest after lol because my meds are still wrong and I get tired quick rip

I did have some very tasty rice for breakfast though which was good, overall a pretty solid day even if it was v tiring lol. I hope everyone else is doing OK and exams are going well and you're giving yourself rest!

Bonjour! What advice would you give for improving your speaking for A-level French? I'm not very good with that haha.

in all honesty, it's something that comes with practice and immersion!

encourage your teachers to do the lessons fully in the target language if they don't already.

consume lots of francophone media. perhaps use french subtitles and repeat the phrases after the speakers.

talk to yourself! narrate your actions, blurt your thoughts, practice conversations in the shower.

do regular written and spoken grammar drills and read them aloud, so that it comes naturally when speaking.

try envisioning the shape, spelling and construction of the sentences in your head before you say them.

never resort to english! always find a way to describe what you mean, or ask for the word in french. e.g. if you don't know the word for lid (le couvercle), you could describe it as the hat of a box (le chapeau d'une boîte).

record yourself and listen back to it!

Je posterai en français avec une traduction en anglais pour maintenant car j'ai les examens dans une semaine...

Je suis étudiant français depuis neuf mois maintenant et j'espère que je pourrai aller mieux grâce à ce blog. Aujourd'hui, j'ai fini ma ``Critical Reflection'' pour mon anthropologie IA et je jouerai à minecraft après avoir fait des maths. :)

i’m sasha, i’m 17 & i’m currently in year 12 of sixth form ✨

i really wanted to start a studyblr to motivate myself to revise more and to really concentrate on my a levels ! and i figured there was no better time than being stuck inside to really get my head down and try my best to make it a little bit easier for when my exams come.♡

a little bit about me;

✿ i take english lit, psychology & french a level ! however i did change to french from history earlier this year, so i am really focusing on catching up with the language in particular as i’ve missed a lot.

✿ i’m also trying to read more, as i hope to take english lit at uni and need to spend more time stuck in a book!

✿ i love to bake, so some of them might pop up in my posts! *:･ﾟ✧ 🍰🍰
