maybe this is like a personal issue I gotta work on but I personally don't think "purposefully spreading/insisting on a lie" is funny at all, no matter how innocuous and innocent (and seemingly obvious) the lie is

because we really do genuinely have a problem online with disinformation campaigns and people spreading misinformation either knowingly or unknowingly and with people lacking the tools to spot this and find the correct information.

the only thing these "jokes" do is show just how incredibly vulnerable people are to believing anything that someone insists to be true and how bad people are at researching on their own and thinking critically. this is a genuine issue that has lead to things like the 2016 election and anti-vaxxers/anti-maskers. all those jokes about family at thanksgiving spewing bullshit they read on fb trace back to this issue online. conspiracy theories designed to target minories spread because of this.

so I'm sorry, but I don't think that making a joke out of what is a genuinely horrifying problem online is funny. way more energy should be invested in promoting media literacy and providing people with the necessary tools and skills to not fall for lies, both the big ones and the silly ones.
