Character creation asks, first 4 for Ahimi?
What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?
Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind?
I was about to say no to this one, then remembered I did know a fair bit about the Deadfire companions before I played and kind of designed her with reference to Tekēhu! I wanted that contrasting sharkboy and lavagirl water vs fire aesthetic and also for them to have a bit of a personality clash at first (they’re very different in some ways while having been shaped by similar forces - early-game Tekēhu in particular REALLY reminds Ahimi of certain aspects of her younger self she’d rather disavow). Originally I thought they might end up romancing each other, but it didn’t shake out that way. They do become very close after working out those initial differences, though.
(I also knew I wanted her to be lifelong besties 5ever with Edér before I started playing, but the game cheerfully set that one up for me without my needing to design around it!)
How did you choose their name?
She’s named after Ahimi the Dreamwalker! Which, yeah, does mean she didn’t have a set name up until I played Forgotten Sanctum - I was using a nickname for her up until that point and ended up changing it several times. I always had it in my head that she’d gone by a lot of aliases - a new one for each place she drifted through, until she settled down in the Dyrwood for a while - and enjoyed making new ones up for fun. It’s one of her Wael-approved beguiler traits! Historical Ahimi was an exceptionally gifted cipher/archmage who invented her own spells, so people In The Know like Onekaza get to tease her about the pretentiousness of the name choice. (Current-day Ahimi just preens like “wait and see”. She’s still got that unshakeable confidence.)
(It occurs to me that funnily enough, only one of my four Watchers still goes by their birth name.)
In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?
