(i love you so much that i hate you, right now it’s so hard to blame you cause you’re so damn beautiful, so damn beautiful)

“i hope you’re proud of yourself. tell me. how does it feel to know you always have me coming back?”

yuchan chose not to answer, instead opting to hold your waist tighter and push his frame closer to yours. he delicately raises your chin, allowing himself to stare into your eyes. the lights in the empty bar hallway don’t do him justice, the blank forest green walls only making him stand out more. he places a soft, light kiss on your lips. he keeps his face close to yours, bringing your foreheads together. he sighs, “i don’t know what’s more impressive: my ability to have you coming back time and time again or how desperate you are to return. it’s the same routine.”

you scoff at how shameless he is. “i wish you wouldn’t look at me like that. you say that you’ll be there and that you love me, but we always end up fighting.”

“tough love,” he spits out.

“this,” you pause pointing in between the two of you, your voice raising in volume and irritation, “is not tough love, chan. it’s tough, but it’s not love.” 

“come on… don’t say that.” he reaches down to hold your hand, a second too late when you yank it away defensively.

“did you ever actually love me?”

he hesitates. “of course, i did.”

“exactly my point. you did. you don’t anymore.” you place your hands against his chest, feeling the satin material of his button up. you gently push him away from you. “why can’t you just let me go for once? it’ll be better for the both of us.”

“i will, eventually. i can’t now, not right now. tonight, i want to be with you. at least give me that. please… for me…”

you don’t know what happened afterwards. it’s a blur like always. one second he’s talking all sweet, trying to convince you, and you want to refuse. only thing you’re sure of is muttering the words “just for tonight” some time in between. yet you always find yourself waking up in his bed the next morning.

Here’s part 2! I am a little happier with this one than the first one. The third part may be much longer and the last one, depending on how I feel! Like I said in the first part, I am indecisive fdlihgdfudf

Summary: You hadn’t seen your best friend Kay in months, and when she called you and asked to meet up at your childhood favorite Café, who were you to say no? You didn’t know what to expect when you finally got to see her again. What you expected even less however, was not for Kay to be there, but for your childhood friend Donghun instead. He’d left town to chase his dreams three years ago, and you’d completely lost contact after two years in. Yet here he was, standing in front of you, with that stupid, gentle smile on his face, as if he never left in the first place.

“Hey, chipmunk.” 

You stood there, staring at your best friend standing in front of you. The same best friend that you haven’t seen in three years. The same best friend that ghosted you for an entire year now. Worst of all, the same best friend who, not even once, have you been mad at for it.

Tears rolled down your cheeks, pulling you out of your paralyzed stupor, and you began to sob. It was embarrassing, and you had no idea why that was all you could handle doing at that moment, but it wasn’t like he hadn’t seen it before.

Donghun’s expression quickly changed from soft and tender, to full on worry and concern. He reached forward and wrapped his arms around you, pulling you tightly against his chest in that comforting embrace that you missed so much. 

He remained silent as he held you, letting you cry out all of the feelings you had been holding in for an entire year. 

Once you had started to calm down, you finally noticed the cologne he was wearing. It smelled like a mixture of Cashmere and Vanilla. Just another thing about him that made you feel comfortable and safe.

After a while, your sniffles had gone silent and the two of you stood there, holding onto to each other, before Donghun finally broke the silence.

“Are you feeling a little better, Precious?” 

The concern was still audible in his voice, and your heart ached from how it hurt you to make him worry like that. 

Wait a minute, I shouldn’t feel bad for worrying him, he should be the one who feels bad for worrying me! for a whole year!

You nodded your head and took a step back, looking up into his eyes. “Donghun... Why... What are you doing here?” 

He reached out, his thumbs gently brushing away the remaining tears from your cheeks and adjusting your hair, tucking it behind your ear.

“I finally got my phone back from my job, and a vacation. I missed all of you guys so much, I immediately booked a flight.” He grinned.

“But you didn’t even tell anyone, and- you... you haven’t even spoken to me for an entire year!” 

Your voice was laced with hurt and anger, which he expected. This wasn’t fully his fault, but he would accept the consequences regardless.

“You can yell at me, if it makes you feel better... do you want to hit me? go ahead,” he patted his arm and playfully braced himself, “I’m ready, throw hands!” 

You frowned at his attempt to make a joke out of such a serious moment, but deep down, you knew he was just trying to make you smile.

“I’m not going to hit you, Hun.” you grumbled, exasperated. 

“What can I do to make it better?”

“Tell me why you’ve ignored me.”

Donghun looked pained, and he reached out to adjust your hair some more, seemingly unable to stop touching you now that you were finally here, in front of him. “I really wasn’t able to use my phone for the first year of my job. I’ve thought about you every single day. All of you. Kay, Annie, Yijin, Lia and you. Especially you.”

Your frown remained, but a little softer than before.

“Promise?...”

“Y/n, I would never, ever leave you in the dark intentionally. I’ve been missing you like crazy.” His arms reached out and wrapped around you once more, tugging you back against his chest. 

“I showed up at Kay’s house and nearly gave her a heart attack.” He chuckled. God, even his laugh was smooth and calming. Really infuriating when you’re trying to be upset at him. Which you already weren’t very good at.

“Kay and I wanted to surprise you, so she called and found out where you were so that I could come find you.” He was speaking softly to you, as if worried you may start crying again. 

You crossed your arms across your chest, not quite ready to let it go. Sure, it wasn’t his fault, but he didn’t even warn you or anything! That in itself was hurtful.

“Why didn’t you at least tell me you wouldn’t be able to talk to anyone for a while? You left me in the dark.” You lowered your eyes to the ground, a pang in  your heart. “I thought you left me behind, because you were bored of me or something...” 

Donghun immediately let out a scoff. 

“Bored, of you? The one and only? The legendary, number one chipmunk?” 

A groan escaped your lips and you covered your face with your hands, trying not to show him that he made you laugh. “You’re never going to let that go, are you?” 

“No. No I will not.” 

“It was one time!”

“It was multiple times, and you stuffed your cheeks so full they looked like balloons!” 

Even as Donghun was teasing you with a big smile on his face, his fingers managed to find their way into your hair yet again, running through it absently. His eyes searched all over your face, as if he hadn’t seen you for, well, years.

Your cheeks burned under his intense gaze, his hands now resting on them.

“H-hun... why do you-”

Suddenly your cheeks were squished between his hands, distorting the rest of your sentence, “-keewp toushing mww cheekth”

He just laughed at you, earning a glare as you swatted his hands away. As soon has his hands left your cheeks though, they grabbed onto yours. He laced his warm fingers with your own, staring at you with a fond smile on his lips for a moment, before forcing himself to snap out of it.

“So, what do you say we continue on to the Café and get us a coffee? My treat.”

“Well I sure hope so. You owe me three years worth of coffees.”

“Oh? Do you want them all at once? I can get you them all at once-”

“Alright, listen-”

“No really, I’ll do it right now! Come on, I’m going to buy you a coffee for each day I’ve missed.”

“Donghun you’re so not funny.” Contradicting that statement, you couldn’t help but to laugh.

“What is that, three years, three-hundred-sixty-five days a year, I owe you, what, like, at the very minimum, one-thousand-ninety-five coffees!”

“I don’t even drink coffee every day! What are you talking about!”

“Maybe even more, right? How much money is that, let’s see-”

“That’s it, I can’t take it, go back, I’ll go alone!” You teased, pulling away from him and continuing on your way to the Café.

“Wait! The coffees!” Donghun teased as he followed after you, laughter sparkling in his eyes.

he will never hurt you and you know it

District 5, the biggest of the seven districts, held secrets you learned late.

You submitted a late school work from your history class. The professor was out of his office so you sneaked in to place your submission. As you were about to go, you saw your student profile peeking out of an open envelope with large red letters that says ‘URGENT’. Curious, you took a look at it.

The first page was a profile. Your name, age, address, and the basics. The second page was a short report of your grades—for history class, science class, language class, and combat classes.

The last page confused you. It was a letter to the District Leader with words you could not understand. It talked about medical tests you don’t remember taking, your potential, and a conclusion that says you passed a test.

Something about it made you uneasy so you scanned the other documents in the envelope. And when you saw other student profiles—profiles of those who were supposedly abducted by the Savages, you felt cold.

Savages are the villains of the world. They are humans who possess weird eye colors along with abilities normal humans don’t. No one knew where they originated but they have been a problem since the First attacked Districts 2 and 3 some years ago. He set the two districts on fire, burning them to ashes.

That’s why combat classes became mandatory to every student. It was supposed to help humans fight back against the Savages. In fact, you were aiming to be a Protector—the heroes who hunt Savages, once you graduate.

You fixed all the documents and returned them to the table. Your gut told you that it meant something really bad. But aside from Savages which you won’t see until your graduation, what else could be worse?

The answer came two days later.

People dressed in black suits suddenly appeared on your way home from school. They looked nothing like Savages. In fact, they looked elegant, neat, and professionals. As you were about to ask who they were, you felt a quick prick of a needle and everything went dark.

When you opened your eyes, you’re in a white room with no windows. There was nothing in it aside from the bed you were laying in, the small table beside it, piles of clothes on one corner and a really small bathroom on the other.

The metal door on the side opened. Doctor Hana—the short-haired woman who has been visiting you ever since you woke up, entered the room. Immediately, you moved toward the headboard of the bed and hugged yourself. You tried taking deep breaths but each time, it got stuck in your throat.

You fear her presence. You’re afraid of the serums she’s injecting you because as time passes by, you could feel something within you. It’s like piece by piece, you were losing yourself.

“Your professor told me you have potential.” She smiled as she leisurely walked toward you. “But now I’m starting to doubt it.”

Your heart pounded when you noticed that she forgot to fully close the door. During the first time, there were nurses holding you down. But after a few more times of you not trying to escape, the doctor started coming alone.

Though you are truly afraid, you knew that fear is both a weapon and a shield. It may be used against you. But you can use it against them.

The doctor placed her tray of syringes and vials on the table. “Don’t worry. Just like the previous times, I’ll give you something to make you sleep so you won’t feel the pain.”

“Did the...” You took a deep breath and forced your voice to shake more. “D-did the p-professor also tell y-you this?”

She was busy transferring a serum in the syringe. “Hmm?”

“That the reason why I excel in combat is because I’m a good strategist.”

She paused with the sleep serum in hand. Without waiting for another second, you grabbed the syringe and used it on her. The shocked expression on her face slowly went lax along with her body.

You’re not sure if there are cameras in the room but you have to escape fast. Quickly, you stripped her lab coat and wore it. You went out and into a corridor as white as the room. There were sounds of footsteps everywhere but you don’t know where they’re coming from. You decided to simply go to the heavy-looking metal door at the end.

You were halfway the corridor when some sort of alarm blared.

A soft curse went out of you.

You hasten your steps but did not run. The door at at the end of the corridor burst open and revealed more people in white. You froze in your steps and thought they were to come at you but they simply ran pass you.

Without turning back, you stride toward the now closed door. You tried opening it but it was locked. You panicked to find where its lock is but when you realized it’s using biometrics, you simply moved away and bit your lip.

You have to form another strategy as soon as possible.

The alarm stopped along with your breath. Thick silence suddenly descended on the corridor. Slowly, you turned around, expecting to see people to drag you back in your room.

Walking toward you was a familiar guy in a black garb, carrying a medium-sized black box. Everything about him was familiar. His built, his hair, and even the way he walk. But there was something off about him.

“K-Kwan?” You whispered. “Byeongkwan?”

He was one of the students who went missing a year ago. But his disappearance was the only one that broke you.

When he stopped a few feet away from you, you finally saw his eyes.

“Savage,” you whispered and felt yourself moving backwards. “You’re a Savage.”

He continued walking toward you without saying anything. You plastered yourself on the wall, mixed emotions swirling in your heart. Fear. Betrayal. Hurt.

And longing.

He stopped directly in front of you. His unfamiliar eyes were staring at you with emotions you can’t decipher. You flinched when he raised his hand to touch you and immediately, he put it down.

“BK?” A muffled voice sounded from an in-ear. “Agent BK?”

Without looking away, he pressed his in-ear. “I got the serums. Be there in a few.”

Once again, silence descended on the both of you. You watched him as he scanned you the way he always did back then, after your combat classes. When his eyes held yours, you held your breath.

“Did they hurt you?” He asked, his voice holding the familiar concern.

“N-No,” you whispered. Then, “Will you hurt me?”

“Never,” he whispered back.

After a few more moments of staring at each other, he moved away and placed his hand on the locked door. Without any effort, the metals creaked and crunched under his palm. Soon, the door folded unto itself.

“They made me,” he suddenly said. “When they took me last year, I was human. After injecting various serums to mutate my DNA, I became a Savage.”

A sharp gasp went out of you. “They’re making Savages?”

“They made every Savage. It’s just that some mutation don’t go well. Some Savages are stripped of their humanity.” He turned to you. Slowly, he said, “I never lied to you. I never pretended to be someone else in front of you. Everything I said before was true.”

What he was saying was ridiculous. Why would the government create Savages and train people to fight them? Why would they take humans and mutate their DNA? But why would...

Why would Byeongkwan lie to you?

Hesitatingly, he held out his hand to you. It was the hand that broke the heavy metal door in a single touch. “Do you... want to go with me?”

You weren’t sure. He might not be telling you the truth. And even if he did, he might not be the same Byeongkwan who trained with you back then. He might be different from the Byeongkwan who... loved you sincerely.

But when you took his hand and felt its gentleness and warmth, you knew you made the right choice.

The first thing you notice is the wailing. Then it’s the arms that tighten around your waist. For a moment, you think it’s a dream. But the crying doesn’t stop and the grip gets tighter.

You open your eyes, bleary, to stare at Junhee. “Do you know what time it is?”

“Let me check...” Leaning over to look at the bedside clock, he says, “It’s two thirty.”

You groan. Then you chuckle weakly. “I guess three hours of sleep is better than nothing.” Shuffling about, you try to wiggle out of his grasp. But he holds you in place and presses a light kiss on your temple.

“I’ll do it,” he tells you. “You can get more rest.”

“What if he wants his mother?”

“Who wouldn’t?” He kisses you again before his limbs untangle from yours. “Stay,” he says, and it’s in that tone that makes you melt and whole all at once. “It’s warmer under the blankets.”

When he leaves, you settle back and close your eyes. The cries soon turn to whimpers. Then there’s silence. You smile, silently admiring how quick he calmed down your son. But seconds turn into minutes, sleep turns to agitation, and soon, the silence unnerves you. Was something wrong? Did something happen? Why didn’t Junhee come back?

Slipping your feet onto the ground, you wrap the blanket around you as you make your way to the nursery. In the hallway, you hear it: a soft familiar melody. It’s the one he used to sing when the two of you stayed up at night, thinking of baby names and feeling the kicks through your stomach.

You hide behind the door frame, watching him rock the baby. His humming is sweet and gentle; you almost miss his words.

“Your lungs are tough, aren’t they?” With a hand under his son’s neck, the other pats his back. “Papa’s glad. Papa wants you to grow up strong and healthy. Can you do that for Papa?”

As if understanding the question, he gurgles.

Junhee presses his lips on his forehead. “Papa wants you to be happy, Papa wants you to be safe. But most of all, Papa loves you very, very much.” He leans in with a conspiratorial whisper. “Papa also loves Mama. And Papa feels special that Mama chose to love him back.”

Your hands clutch the ends of the blanket, heart warming.

“You love Mama too, don’t you? She’s a bit tired so she has to sleep. Can you let her sleep? Hm? She’ll dream of you and me and how happy we are together...”

It must be the hormones that make your eyes tear up. Putting your back against the wall, you listen to your husband continue his ministrations until you hear light snoring. Something shuffles, then creaks. His footsteps are getting closer.

When he sees you, he frowns. But you speak up before he can.

“I feel special that you chose me too,” you tell him.

He studies you, features soft, before wrapping an arm to hold you close. He’s handsome, you think, as he leads you back to your room. Gentle, as he tucks the two of you under the covers. Perfect, as you smile into the crook of his neck.

“I love you,” you say. “And I love how good you are with our son.”

He breathes in your hair, chest rumbling with comfort, and you couldn’t ask for more. “I love how good you are with me.”

Splashing water onto your face, you tried to calm down. Deep breath; one, two, three. Exhale; one, two, three. Repeat, repeat again.

Your heartbeat began to normalize. You sighed. “Okay. All I have to say is--oh god. If it sounds that terrible in my head, it’s going to sound even worse out loud.”

Concentrated on your rehearsal, the sound of the front door slamming open surprised you. In an apartment as tiny as yours, the sound reverberated through the walls. It was enough to make you feel guilty.

You peeked into the hallway. Donghun was replacing his shoes with indoor slippers. When he saw you, his scowl softened into a small frown.

“Welcome back,” you greeted.

His smile looked fake. “Thanks.”

Shuffling out of the bathroom, you followed him to sit on the couch. He rubbed the bridge of his nose and groaned.

You almost didn’t want to ask. “Bad day?”

“Kind of,” he muttered.  One of his hands reached for his chest, before dropping it in realization. He sighed. “Between A.C.E and the Mixnine debut group, I don’t remember the last time I had a proper nap.”

His habit didn’t go unnoticed.  You winced. “I see.”

“I know everyone’s busy, having to juggle between their own groups. They’re all as tired as I am. But the stress is getting to us.” He looked at you, exhausted. “I snapped at Hyojin today. It wasn’t pretty.”

Playing with your fingers, you said, “Well, I’m proud of you and what you’re doing. You’ve worked hard. And you know I’ll always support you, right?”

“Mm.” He laid his head on your shoulder. “Thanks, I needed to hear that. You’re the good news I come home to.”

“...Donghun?”

“Yeah?”

“You know how you forgot to bring your dog tag today?”

He chuckled wryly. “Ah yes, my symbolic support system. I think that’s why I broke.”

“Um, you see--” You bit your lip. “--I dropped it in one of the air vents.”

“You...what?” He lifted his head to stare at you. A flicker of emotions ran through his face: shock, hurt, then anger.

But leaning back from you, betrayal in his eyes--that agitated you the most.

“One day,” he muttered. “I left it home for one day and you managed to lose it?”

You held your hands together so they would be still. “It wasn’t on purpose, I swear--”

“Does that matter?!” He stood up, so abruptly you almost jumped. “You don’t know how important that is to me!”

“I do know! I do!”

As he looked down at you, you heard him grit his teeth. “If you did,” he snapped, “you would’ve taken better care of it.”

You could feel yourself tearing up. You knew it. You knew this was going to happen. It was going just as you imagined it to be. Placing a hand over your eyes, you listened to him complain.

“Do you have any idea how upset I am right now? My schedule is a mess, I’m at wit’s end, and now, now I just heard you lost one of my most important things.”

“I’m sorry.” You repeated it like a mantra. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”

“Sorry doesn’t fix it. And why aren’t you looking at me? Huh? [Y/N], if you think you can hide and ignore this, I--”

A sob escaped.

He paused. “[Y/N]?” He placed a hand on your arm. You shook your head. “[Y/N], look at me.”

The words were familiar, but they were softer than before. You shook your head again, voice cracking. “I’m sorry, Donghun. I really am.”

“[Y/N]. Hey.” He slid back onto the couch, rubbing your arm with his fingers. “Crying doesn’t help.”

“I know. But I’ve been beating myself up about this for the whole afternoon, and I was bracing myself for when you came back and you acted like how I thought you would and--”

“Shh, shh. I understand. I’m sorry too. I shouldn’t have snapped.”

“Yeah, your anger was a bit misplaced.” You dropped your hand to look at him. He looked kind of blurry. “But you had every right to.”

“You said it was an accident, right?” You nodded. He wiped away the tears. “Then it was an accident. Accidents happen.”

“This wouldn’t have happened if I’d been more careful.”

“Aish, don’t say that.” Placing a hand on your cheek, you let him guide your head onto his shoulder. “I’ll get even more upset if you blame yourself.”

You sniffled. “I knocked it over from the vanity,” you admitted. “I have no idea why it landed in the vent, of all places.”

He sighed. “Sounds like we both had a rough day.”

“...Are you still mad at me?”

“No. And I shouldn’t have been in the first place.”

You nodded. And after a moment’s hesitation, you hugged his stomach and said, “I promise I’ll call the landlord tomorrow. Maybe maintenance will find it.”

“Maybe. But it’s okay; it’s not as important.” Listening to his heartbeat steady, yours began to fall into a similar rhythm. “You though? I wouldn’t be able to bear losing you at all.”
