Okay so I am currently sick af and this is purely comfort writing for myself. I kinda wrote it for myself but in a way that you can insert yourself or your oc, whatever you wish. Also posting this on my fandom blog vs my main because my roommate has called me out for my blue person hyper fixation lmao. Human reader x Lyle Wainfleet, Lyle being a caretaker.
* Lyle isn’t too fond of scientists. They tend to be boring and super serious and he can hardly understand most of them. But there were 2 scientists in particular that were assigned to the recon squad that he actually enjoyed. Two young kids in their mid twenties from Earth who got the chance of a lifetime to get shipped out to space to work with avatars.
* Your partner/ coworker was low key a genius at understanding Na’vi biology on a totally different level than everyone else. When offered the job he demanded that he be able to take his lifelong best friend with to act as his second hand man and that’s how you got in the picture. You were smart, but everyone could tell you weren’t really a scientist. You had loads of skills from welding, to navigating the stars, first aid training, and being an a pretty big nerd on Pandora flora and fauna. So you had your uses to the team.
* From day one you were labeled as sarcastic and a smart ass which didn’t bother you too much. In fact you were kind of happy to inflict yourself on others, especially the recoms. You and Lyle butted heads from the first minute you met with insults and burns flying both ways.
* He’ll never forget the time he asked you a question and you tried to make him figure it out himself. It wasn’t that he was stupid, but he wasn’t exactly book smart either. Eventually when he got his answer he was quite proud of himself. You on the other hand gave him a snort and shot another comment his way.
* “I’m really surprised! I didn’t think you’d actually get it. I just wanted to see how many brain cells you were capable of using at once.” *Ouch*
* Once you got to know each other a bit better the comments and roasting turned humorous and mildly affectionate. Lyle and you would take turns coming up with burns for each other and eventually the recom team as well.
* “When he wears his sunglasses he looks like a little league coach.” Lyle snorts and gives a little nod.
* “Wainfleet you are so god damn bald I can see my reflection off the back of your head.” You snickered. “Oh really? I didn’t think you could see that high Short stack.” Lyle shot back.
* Your laid back attitude and nonchalantness about wrangling an entire team of marines was kind of impressive. Lyle remembers the first time you got on Colonel’s temper and you were so offended when Quaritch hissed at you that you sprayed him with the water bottle you were holding while gardening.
* “Colonel, you are a grown ass man and I know you have better manners than that.” Quaritch started to growl and was about ready to fire back some insults when you held up the bottle again towards his face. You raised a defying eyebrow at him and said in the most stern voice you could possible manage, “Don’t make me get the hose.”
* Lyle couldn’t hold back his laughter anymore and the pair of you turned to look at him. Colonel scowled and you had such a mischievous sparkle in your eyes. “Short stack you got some balls.” Was all Lyle managed to say before Quaritch was angrily stalking towards him.
* While there weren’t a lot of humans that the recoms interacted with on a weekly or even monthly basis, the scientists still had to get supplies from the main bases. Lyle would accompany you to the commissary shop and watch in curiosity to see what you would pick. Mainly shower supplies, some new clothes to replace your tattered ones, some impulse snacks that get shipped up to generate cash for the base. Okay, mostly snacks like sour gummy worms and chips.
* You even snuck away for a brief minute and came back with some other goods, which upon smelling turned out to be edibles. He just shook his head and laughed while trying not to draw attention. You smiled and winked at him, “I gotta keep myself sane somehow!”
* After about a week and a half of returning from base you started to complain about not feeling good. You were restless at night and didn’t get much sleep so you were extra crabby. For the most part you were alright but when Quaritch pushed you out of bed ridiculously early to make breakfast for everyone you let him have it. There was yelling and a fair bit of cursing about how men are so helpless they can’t even cook for themselves for one freaking morning. You looked everyone straight in the eye and in a hoarse voice you told everyone you were going back to bed.
* The colonel was miffed to say the least, Lyle had never seen him so angry at you before and he grabbed the Colonels arm and said “I’ll handle this.”
* Due to part of the mission objective was to “become Na’vi” the RDA custom built a shack and transported it out to the middle of the forest, a few miles away from main base. The shack everyone lived in was one level for the most part with a sectioned off sleeping quarters for the crew. There was also high ceilings to accommodate the recoms height. There was also a kitchen and what you could call a living area of sorts. A few chairs here and there but that was about it.
* For the two humans, there was a second floor added- almost like a horseshoe shaped loft. There were two bedrooms on opposite sides that had curtains for privacy. There was also a middle living/ work area that was were you and your colleague had set up your equipment and offices. There was a open section leading into the loft that Avatars were able to stand up in, which came about chest level for them. This was where many of the recoms physicals and vitals took place since the humans could reach the avatar faces without the recoms having to crouch down.
* You had your curtains drawn shut and he almost hesitated. Lyle knocked his knuckles into the floor and called out to you. “What’s up Short stack?” You didn’t respond but he could hear you rustling in your bed. His ears flicked at the nose and he waited for your response.
* “I don’t feel good, I think I’m getting sick. I have had a headache for the past 2 days and nothing has helped. I also have a sore throat. All I want to do is sleep.” Lyle felt sympathy for you and reached out one long arm to pull the curtain back. You were sitting up, propped against your pillows with the blanket wrapped around you. Lyle could see the redness in your eyes and assumed you had cried a little bit either out of frustration or pain.
* “Is there anything I can do?” Lyle offered and you took a deep breath in. “Well I’d love to get some more sleep honestly. But I think picking up some cold medicine from base would be a good idea.” You huffed angrily, “I can’t believe I go to another freaking planet, I’m hardly around other humans, and I *still* got sick! This sucks.”
* Lyle nods understandingly. “I’ll get you your medicine, so you can go back to sleep. Just try not to piss the Colonel off anymore okay? And make sure you drink some water too.” You nodded but rolled your eyes a bit. “Okay dad.”
* When Lyle came back to the group in the kitchen he cleared his throat and addressed Quaritch. “Sir she’s sick. I think it would be a good idea to let her rest and pick up some medication before it gets any worse. So it doesn’t spread to the other human.” Quaritch huffs but doesn’t say anything other than “Alright.”
* Lyle goes to the commissary like the two of you usually did. The person behind the counter asks what he can do for him. “I need cold medicine.” The man behind the counter laughs. “Good luck finding that around here. I haven’t seen a new shipment of that in a while. Come back in a week and we may have some. In the meantime here is some cough drops and electrolyte replenishers.”
* Lyle’s tail flicked in disappointment. He knew that timing was important and in order to make this better you needed treatment sooner rather than later. So he looked down at the man with sharp eyes and said in his best threatening voice “I’ll be back next week. You better save 2 bottles of whatever you get for me or I will not be happy.” The man’s heart rate spiked and he nodded frantically.
* Lyle came back home with the meager supplies he could get and called to you from the kitchen. You came down wrapped in a big sweater and pulled his tail gently as you walked past. “Did you get some?” He shook his head and sighed. “They’re all out, maybe next week. I promise I’ll go as soon as the shipment comes in. In the meantime drink one of these.” He places a bottle down in front of you, which looks ridiculously small compared to his hand. You drink most of it down and place the cold bottle to your forehead in hopes of persuading your headache to go away.
* You look up at him and see a small frown forming on the corners of his lips. “I’m sorry.” “It’s not your fault, you did what you could. I appreciate it dude.”
* Over the next few days your symptoms end up becoming worse. Now with the sore throat you are congested, coughing, and running a fever. Due to safety concerns your friend is temporarily set up in the recom quarters to prevent contamination. So while you were suffering from a cold you were also isolated too.
* What made it a little better was that your colleague was certain your sickness couldn’t be passed to the recoms so you could still hang out with Lyle. Lyle was hanging out by the railing each day, doing what he could to cheer you up. He brought you some cool rocks he found outside, told you a few funny stories about the shenanigans he got up to in the marines, and of course brought you snacks and water.
* One morning your fever broke 102 and Lyle was seriously freaking out. Unfortunately all he could do was give you acetaminophen and some cold rags to hopefully lower your temp. At this point even the Colonel was worried. They both looked at you on your bed and then at each other. “How many more days until the medicine gets here?” Quaritch asks, worry dancing in his voice. “Day and a half.” The Colonel puts his hand on Lyle’s shoulder and looks at him in the eye.
* “We just got word from base that Jake Sully has been sighted outside of the mountains. I’m getting the team together to go find him. I feel bad about leaving her in this state, but I’m going to put my trust in you that you can take care of her by yourself. We are leaving in an hour.” Lyle’s heart sinks a bit. He wants so badly to get revenge on Sully too but right now his biggest worry is you. Lyle nods and Colonel starts packing up supplies.
* The team leaves and it causes enough noise to wake you up. You head down the stairs slowly, your head bobbing up and down on each step. “Hey Short stack, you hungry?” You look up at Lyle, his hand comes down to rest on your forehead. You put your small hand on top of his and nod your head gently.
* Lyle gets to work heating up some soup and makes you each a sandwich. You eat in silence and when you finish he puts another drink in front of you. Without saying anything you open the bottle and take a few chugs.
* “So,” Lyle’s tail flicks to one side and then another, “What do you want to do now that everyone is gone?” A small smile on his lips, hoping it’ll spread to yours. You put the bottle down and think for a minute. “We could watch some movies or something.” “Okay just no chick flicks.”
* Lyle gets the two of you set up in the den with blankets and pillows and tries to make a comfy spot for you to lay down. You grab your tablet and settle into the pile, leaning against his side for support. You choose something to watch from a list, something animated. He watches it with you somewhat, getting engrossed in the plot. He feels you get heavier against his side and glances down at your now sleeping body. He pick you up gently and sets you in the curve of his arm in a more comfortable position for your back.
* He’s surprised at just how warm your fever is making you. His skin feels like ice compared to yours. He places one hand on your forehead again and you mumble in your sleep a bit. He turns on his side and peers at your sleeping figure.
* Lyle’s ears perk up when he hears your friend come in. “Hey so good news! The medicine is in early, I’m on my way to go get it now. You hold down the fort while I’m gone.” Lyle nods and turns his attention back to the sleeping girl in his arms. For the past few days you had been a shell of who you usually are. No quippy comebacks, no sarcastic interruptions, not even a joke for the past week. He was worried about you. After everything he had been through in his human and avatar life he had not had a relationship like this with anyone else.
* He loved you- platonically of course. He didn’t realize how much he missed the roasting and cursing and well, the normal you. He saw you as his closest friend and he hadn’t had one in so long. Without thinking the words start to fall out of his mouth.
* “Come on Short stack, hurry up and get better so you can kick my ass again.” He lets out a small laugh, lowering his lips to the top of your head. He places a small kiss to your temple. You curl into his body as he pulls away. “I miss you. Please.” He whispers. He moves a pillow under his head and relaxed his body. With the background noise of your wheezy breathing and the show you picked Lyle eventually fell asleep himself.
* He woke up when your friend came back with the medicine and he gently woke you up. Your eyes fluttered open and you reached out for his face, still groggy. He scoops you up in his arms and sits you on his lap so you can drink the medicine. You shudder as it hits your tongue, the nasty taste shaking the sleep from you. You finish it all and within a few hours your fever is gone and so is most of your cough.
* You were still in the pillow nest Lyle had made for the two of you and you turn towards him with a smile. “I think I was hallucinating or dreaming or something.” “Oh yeah?” Lyle smiles, happy you’re doing better. “Yeah I could have sworn you kissed me.” You let out a laugh and cover your mouth as you begin to cough.
* “Yeah Short stack, you were definitely dreaming.” His ears flutter for a brief second after being called out. He was so sure you were asleep when he did it. Whatever, at least you were getting better.

Sehyoon cherished the privacy of his bedroom, as it was the one space where he could indulge in his secret obsession. It served as his personal sanctuary, allowing him to surreptitiously observe your every move. From the comfort of his bedroom window, he had an uninterrupted view into your life, a voyeuristic privilege that both thrilled and consumed him.
For hours on end, Sehyoon would find himself captivated by the sight of you in your art studio. There, you would sit at your easel, completely engrossed in your creative process. With each stroke of your brush, a masterpiece would come to life on the canvas, leaving Sehyoon in awe of your talent. He longed to catch a glimpse of your other works, to witness the full extent of your artistic prowess, but his shyness held him back from approaching you directly.
Lost in his thoughts one day, Sehyoon was suddenly startled by a voice behind him. "Who are you peeping at?" Yuchan's mischievous grin greeted him as he turned around, causing Sehyoon to jump so forcefully that he accidentally hit the window. His heart raced as he tried to compose himself, realizing that his secret had been exposed. "Oh, her? Why don't you just go say hi?"
He shook his head. "How would that work? This is the only time I see her." He looked down. "She'd freak out if she knew I watched her."
Yuchan shrugged and reached into his bag of chips. "How would that be better than her simply looking up and seeing you staring? Might as well just introduce yourself." The chip almost touched his lip when his eyes widened. "Or…" He muscled his way to the window and flicked the latch. A second too slow, Sehyoon tried to stop him. "Wait--"
"Hey!" Yuchan called out. You startled at your easel, looking around in bewilderment until you spotted a guy all but leaning out a window waving to get your attention. "Yeah, up here. Hi!"
A few blinks and you were waving back with a brush in your hand. "Hi there!"
Sehyoon covered his face as his skin heated up. "I can't believe you." He muttered.
Yuchan ignored him. "My friend here likes your art! Can he see what you're working on?"
It was your turn to freeze up and turn red. "I--uh--this one?" Yuchan nodded like a happy little idiot. You hesitated but to their surprise you reached over and picked up the canvas. "Please don't think badly of me."
Your shyness was endearing and Sehyoon found himself pushing Yuchan over. "We won't."
Maybe he was imagining it, but it seemed like your blush deepened when you made eye contact. "Okay." You turned the art towards them and for once even Yuchan was speechless. The painting was nowhere near finished but the sketch was good enough to know what it was. He could honestly say he'd never thought that you could see him as well as he could see you. It was a candid portrait of him leaning on his window sill, gazing up at the clouds. You captured him in a way he'd never seen himself, and he liked it.
"Wow that's amazing!" Yuchan pushed him aside. "Will you do one of me next? I wanna hang it up in the living room."
You let out a laugh so precious accompanied with a smile that warmed him from the inside out. "Why don't you come over for tea and cookies and we can talk about it?"

WOW is a cool guy. In the most stereotypical sense, he gives off those aloof vibes and has a pretty face — so people think he’s cool.
But you know him. You’ve known him since before he started getting called WOW, since he was just Sehyoon.
Sehyoon is anything but cool. Not that he’s not a fun guy or anything, but he’s incredibly shy. When you first met him, you were both in your first year at university and he could barely speak to you, but once you’d shown him you could be trusted he’d stuck to you like glue.
The thing is, sometimes Sehyoon becomes a little more WOW-ish — or what people think is WOW-ish. It only happens when he drinks, and it’s only with people he knows well. Like you.
More often than not, you’re his designated driver when he goes out, and your apartment becomes his crash pad because you live closer to the city center than he does. He gets drunk and you take care of him, because he’s your best friends and that’s what best friends are for.
It’s a Friday night like almost any other, Junhee had called you out to their current bar like you’d asked him to when it seemed like Sehyoon had more than enough to drink, and you’ve barely made it through the door before Sehyoon notices. He waves excitedly at you, raising his voice as Junhee and Chan try to stop him from falling off his stool.
“Y/N~!” You can’t help but laugh at the big, goofy grin on his face. Cool, ha.
“Hi, Sehyoon,” you greet, walking into his embrace. He rests his chin contentedly on your shoulder as you turn around in his arms to speak to Junhee.
“How much?”
“Plenty,” the man says, lips curling into a cat-like grin. “You got here just in time. He was gonna try to buy another round of shots.”
“Thanks, I owe you one,” you reply, patting his shoulder. Sehyoon keeps his arms looped around you, humming happily.
“Did you change your shampoo?” He asks, and you roll your eyes, reaching up to pat his cheek.
“No. Come on, let’s get going.” Sehyoon draws his friends into a hug before grabbing onto your hand and allowing you to lead him out of the bar.
It’s much more quiet out on the sidewalk, and Sehyoon begins humming a pop song under his breath. You allow him to twine his fingers with yours, your shoulders knocking together as you walk down the sidewalk.
Sehyoon seems to be at a sweet spot in his drunkenness which you rarely see — happy, a bit drowsy, and extremely clingy and cuddly. You can’t keep the find smile off your face as you usher him into your car, buckling him in before getting behind the wheel. He already appears to be nodding off, so you turn the soft music on the radio up a little bit and allow him to rest before he has to be dragged up to your apartment.
Time passes quickly at this time of night, with a lack of traffic on the roads. You reach your apartment complex almost in record time, and then gently shake your best friend awake.
He whines the whole way into the elevator, but he relaxes once you let him lean his weight on you. He nuzzles into your shoulder, and you gently pat his head, trying to keep him from falling asleep and becoming a dead weight. You work out, but not enough to carry him all the way down the hallway.
“Alright, brush your teeth and I’ll get your clothes ready, okay?” You lead Sehyoon to the threshold of the bathroom, and he pouts at you until you press the toothbrush into his hands.
It takes a little digging around, but you find some of Sehyoon’s clothing in your drawers. You place the folded pile outside the bathroom door before going to begin prepping the couch—
“Y/N!” You hear from suspiciously far down the hallway, and you follow his voice to find him sprawled out on your bed. He opens his arms and makes grabby hands at you, and all you can do is roll your eyes and throw your blankets up over him. You sit on the edge of the bed and brush your fingers through his hair.
“Guess I’m sleeping on the couch then, hm?” You tease. Sehyoon pouts and, as you try to get up, takes hold of your wrist.
“Stay here tonight.” His eyes are honest, tender as they meet yours, and your heart flutters a bit.
You’ve never shared a bed with Sehyoon. Even when he’s drunk, he always seems to have enough of his wits about him to insist on taking the couch so you can have you bed. He slips his hand down from your wrist to hold your hand, shifting his gaze there as well as he begins to gently play with your fingers.
“Please?” He adds, softly. He keeps his gaze trained on your hands, too shy to look at you, and suddenly you feel the exhaustion of the whole day wash over you. You let out a sigh and flop back onto your bed, resting your head on the pillow and turning your head to look at Sehyoon. He bites down on his lip and glances up into your eyes.
“Y/N,” he murmurs, and you hum in acknowledgement.
“Do you… do you ever think—” He pauses and lets out a sigh,
“Have you ever thought of me as, like… more than a friend?”
It feels like your heart stops and then launches directly up into your throat. Sehyoon’s lashes cast shadows on his cheeks as he looks down at your hands tangled together. You swallow hard, your throat suddenly inexplicably dry.
For so long, you’ve been Sehyoon’s best friend. His trust had been something you’d value above anything else, and so even though you’d always found him attractive and had, in fact, considered the possibility of being something more with him, you’d never wanted to rock the boat.
And now, here is your shy best friend, rocking the boat rather violently, and you’re not even sure he’ll remember it in the morning.
“I—” you start, then falter. You lick your lips nervously and squeeze his hand, “Yeah. I have. But, Sehyoon, maybe we should talk about this in the morning when you’re—”
“Are you serious?”
“Sehyoon—”
“Can I hold you?”
It’s a little frightening how little time it takes you to consider before nodding, immediately melting into his embrace as he tucks his chin over your head. He lets out a sigh, and you close your eyes, gently nuzzling against his check.
“I’ve waited for this moment for a long time,” he says. “I love you, Y/N. I really do.” You can’t help but let out a soft, contented laugh, inching even closer to him.
“Let’s talk in the morning, okay?” You murmur. He hums in acknowledgment, and soon you can hear his breathing evening out. Once he finally seems to be asleep, you let out a breath you didn’t realize you’d been holding, closing your eyes.
The moon hung high in the obsidian sky; the cold fall breeze didn't seem to phase him as he took a long draw from his cigarette if anything he was numb. Flickers of your face flashed in his mind, making his heartache at the thought of you. Exhaling, he put out the dying cigarette, throwing it into the ashtray as he grabbed his jacket and started walking down the stairs from his place on the second floor down to the main level. He slipped the cold leather over his arms while he swung his leg over the seat of his motorcycle—you appeared again.
“A motorcycle? What drove you to get that?” You asked, taking the spot next to him.
“Just thought how pretty you would look clinging to me as we ride through Venice.” A sly smile tugged at his lips, watching your cheeks flush.
“Is that so?” Swinging your leg over the bike, you wrapped your arms around his torso and pressed your body to him, “Take me on a ride then.” He wouldn’t tell you, but you made him blush like hell.
Sehyoon sped down the freeway; the only thing on his mind is the last place he saw you. He wanted to be close to you again; ten months meant nothing in the moments he was remembering, why did he leave you, why did you let him?
The cooling sand hugged his feet as he stepped into the beach, the orange painted sky started fading to purple and pink hues, turning the rolling waves into a dark blue, almost black, but he wasn’t focused on the scenery, he was focused on you standing in the shallow water. The wind raked its fingers through your hair, sweeping it in every which way as you welcomed the cold waves against your skin. He called out your name as he made his way closer to you, and you turned around to look at him; he caught your sunset tinted eyes through your messy hair, his heart missing a beat at your beauty.
“Sehyoon…” You ran to him, jumping into his arms, making him drop his cigarette into the damp sand. The weight of your body against him was something he missed every moment he was away from you. It just felt weird not to have you at his side.
“I’m glad I found you.” His deep fawn irises looked into yours; a sudden hunger grew in his chest as his eyes drifted down to your lips. His fingers caressed your cheek as he slowly closed the space between you—full lips brushed against yours, goosebumps flooded your skin as an ache you’d never experienced before filled your being. You placed a brief kiss to his lips, pulling away slightly for him to pull you back, allowing him to press a shamelessly long kiss into your plushness.
He cut it off, so why are you still haunting his memory? Everything he drove past reminded him of you—what was worse was that he ended up at your old place. The lights were out, and everything you used to hand on your front porch was gone, had you really picked up and vanished from his life?
“Would you like to come in?” You turned back to face him, the twinkle lights strung around the awning lit up your face, casting a warm glow against your skin.
“Are you sure you want me to?” Wrapping his arms your waist, he pulled you closer, “I may not leave if you let me in.”
“Who said I wanted you to leave?” He leaned in, bringing his lips closer to yours. You were ready to taste him, feel his weight against you, but he stalled just moments before meeting your skin.
“Are we going to go inside, or are we gonna give your neighbors a show?” He laughed, pulling away for you.
“You’re such a tease.” You turned away from him and opened the door; it was only seconds after the door closed that Sehyoon took you back into his arms again, “What are you doing? You think you’re gonna get a piece after you teased me?” You tried to wiggle out of his hold when he pinned your hands to the wall above you.
“Don’t think I’m going to let you get away…”
Your giggles rang in his ears as well as your blissful moans that he conjured from your chest, that was the first night you let him into your home, the first night that he got to caress your body. He considered it the best night of his life with the woman he dreamt of being with forever, but things change, people change.
“Where are you coming from?” You asked from the couch watching Sehyoon stumbled into the front door.
“None of your business…” Slurred words mixed with the heavy scent of alcohol told you he was drunk.
“I’m assuming you went out with the guys and got too drunk.” You sighed, getting up from the couch to help him. He sat on the floor with a heavy thud as you approached him, “Let me help you.” You began to lift him from the floor when he brushed you off.
“Leave me alone…”
“C’mon, don’t be this way.” You tried to help him again for him to push you away.
“Would you just stop?!” The walls tumbled with his yell; you were shocked since he’d never yelled at you before.
“I was just trying —”
“Just get out.”
“What…?” You whispered, your face washed over in confusion while you watched him get up from the floor.
“I said get out! I’m tired of seeing you! You act so happy to see me, and it makes me sick, so leave!” You stood there, speechless, unable to fathom any coherent sentences.
“If I leave, I’m not coming back—”
“I don’t care! Just get out!” He growled, pushing past you.
He didn’t hear you leave that night, didn’t even hear the door close… and just like that, you were gone. Sehyoon tried to get you out of his mind as he drove down the road again, the sunrise tinted waves began to appear the closer he got to the beach; if he could catch a glimpse of you, he thought he would feel better—no he knew he would feel better. He would melt into your hands and beg for you to come back to him, but the chances of seeing you were slim since he didn’t even know if you were still in town.
The ocean air caressed his cheeks as he pulled up to the beachfront. It was still as beautiful as he remembered, the waves still rolled onto the shore, still got pulled back out into the sea, the sand still hugged his feet when he stepped onto it, but there was something that had him standing still, “Y/N…?” He called out to the silhouette that stood near the water. His heart fell into his stomach as it turned around at the calling of your name, familiar eyes met his causing the butterflies that lie dormant in his stomach to flutter.
The night hair had a distinct quality to it, different from normal. The chill on your skin made it feel pur, almost magical. You weren’t sure how you ended up at the park, but you knew it was where you needed to be. You’d been waiting on your match for over a year now, losing hope that you even had a soulmate.
Crunching footfalls alerted you of someone approaching and when you looked up, you saw him. His head was down, brows and the bridge of his nose illuminated in purple by the digital face of his watch.
“Are you lost?” You called out. His head snapped up at the sound of your voice.
“N-no.” He held up his wrist. “I’m following my compass. It said my soulmate was...is here.” He eyed your hands, and they widened when he spotted your sensor ring. “It has to be you.”
The breathiness of his voice, the slight curve of his lips, the way his eyes sparkled in the dim lighting from the distant streetlights—all of it made the moment feel surreal. “Only one way to be sure.” You held out your hand with the sensor.
His hand shook as it grasped yours, and you gave it a reassuring squeeze. He blew out a huff of air. “I’m Sehyoon.”
You smiled and told him your name before gently brushing the ring over the back of his hand. There was a quiet hum as the device did its scan then it chirped as it turned purple, matching his device. You looked up at his face with a grin. “It’s nice to finally meet you.”
“I wasn’t convinced this would work.” His smile was oddly comforting. “But I’m glad it did.”
You gestured to the empty swing beside you. “Well, have a seat. Let’s chat. Unless you had other plans?”
He shook his head and dropped into the seat, metal chains clinking then groaning as he did. “For you, I have all the time in the world.”
