I’m still thinking about Shidou, his high school sweetheart reader, and their odd slow-burn romance.

Because once Shidou develops feelings, he pursues and does not hold back (especially not with his words). And even though very early on his reader realizes that he never lies to her, i don’t think she necessarily takes his advances at face value—she kind of assumes that this is how he treats all things that he “likes,” with her only point of reference being soccer. So she assumes those comments are all a very exaggerated expression of friendship. And it’s not like Shidou’s reader really has a great grasp on healthy relationships herself, much less love. She’s spent her whole adolescence trying to escape her home; she’s not really in any romantic headspace. It takes her about a year to really start thinking of anything beyond the realm of friendship, and even then it’s rocky for a bit (she panics). Meanwhile, Shidou is pulling her into his lap 24/7, proposing to her with rings he made from dandelions, inhaling her scent like a rabid dog any time he gets the chance, and is just. happy to be there.
