I can't sleep lately. I can't even think. I keep trying to look back, trying to remember and see if I can figure out where I fucked up. It hurts too much, though. I don't know if it's a headache or just misery and regret. I haven't been able to tell physical pain from emotional for a while. It doesn't really matter, though. Alcohol fixes both.

Grabbing a large bottle from the hidden hole in the wall, I fall back onto the bed. One last time, I'll try to tap into my memories. Clearing my mind, a picture begins to form. A cluster of shooting stars flash across a dark night, and small, familiar fingers intertwine with mine. A smile reaches for my lips. One particularly vibrant star comes rocketing into view, and suddenly the scene dissolves, morphing into a painfully bright flash. The light fades, a booming echo rings in my ears, and I return to the present, the almost-smile long lost.

Back in the silence and darkness of now, I opened the bottle, tossing the cap aside. I won't be needing it.
