<- part 10 || part 12 -> and other crows nonsense here
Runaways AU Ilya was in fairly regular contact with Svetlana. They emailed about utilities or logistics, and called weekly to just catch up. At first Shane couldn't imagine wanting to talk to anyone from his old life now that he was free of it, but he understood that Ilya had a different relationship with his past. Besides, they owed Svetlana everything. She had allowed them to have all of this. Shane made an exception. Now when Svetlana called he leaned into the landline alongside Ilya.
"–and then, I went out the shovel the road and it was already melted! By the time I got outside It was just the driveway that had anything on it. We got like one millimeter of snow!" Ilya was regaling her with the wonders of Tennessee snow storms. Which were less snow and more hail, that had only started in late January and ended before February was over
"It was like 2 centimeters and it wasn't even snow it was just ice. I don't know why he's lying when the actual number is equally pathetic," Shane called to them across the table.
"At least I hear spring comes early down there," Svetlana offered. "Your lives will be covered in flowers before you know it."
Ilya was happy to jump topics. "I hear there is a tree called a dogwood everywhere around here. I want to see its flowers. It has to have good flowers. It has dog in the name."
"Ilyusha you have seen a dogwood before—"
"No. no. I would know if I had."
"I've already tried," Shane warned. "It's no use. I also tried to tell him they won't look like dogs. He wont drop the joke."
"Well…" Svetlana switched tactics. "Maybe he is right. Maybe he knows something we don't, Shane."
Shane bit his lips to keep himself laughing. "Uhuh. does he."
"Maybe I will just have to come down in the spring and find out myself."
Time slowed for a second.
"Spring is so soon! Could you really? I would love to see you."
Shane's chest tightened at Ilya's voice. He sounded like he missed her a lot. He never really spoke about his regrets. Shane wondered if Ilya missed a lot from his old life.
"We would love to have you, Sveta," Shane said into the phone. "Just tell us when you're available and we'll set up the guest bedroom for you."
"Thank you, Shane!" "Of course."
Shane wandered deeper into the kitchen, and then when he could still hear Svetlana talking to Ilya about Boston through the phone, out to the porch. The air smelled clean and open, Shane let himself dissociate as he watched the trees sway in the winter chill. He had promised to chop more wood for the elderly Sterns; he needed to research what plants could grow in the shady patch that he planned to make a small garden; the Figs were having trouble with a scraping door, and Shane had said he'd remove it from its hinges and take a saw to the bottom of it when he was over to watch Taylor next. He had no spotlights on him, or directors watching his every breath, or sponsored soda to pretend to drink. He just had a list of labors of love. What a wonderful set of tasks to need done.
-
Svetlana found time in March. It was sooner than either Shane or Ilya could have hoped and they'd spent the half a month's lead time in floaty excitement. Ilya for seeing his best friend, and Shane for seeing Ilya so excited.
She only would be available for the weekend, flying in Friday and out Sunday morning but they planned to make the most of it. Shane had a scribbled itinerary magnetized to the fridge.
Friday: Settle. Town? - Ask. Saturday: Mountain View Trail - Ilya says she won't want to hike that far but that we need to make her anyway. Sunday: Longphisher pancake recipe.
Ilya and Shane couldn't risk driving out to the airport to pick Svetlana up so she rented a car to drive out to their town. Shane felt bad about it, but any proposed solution would only make more work for everyone.
Her car pulled into the drive at 4pm and, after greetings, the town plan was quickly scrapped. Besides, she said she'd visited last year when she'd been looking for the right house to purchase for them and remembered it will enough.
-
They sat on the back porch, Anya returning a ball to Ilya every few minutes so he could chuck it back over the railing. "I doubt I will ever feel like I have thanked you enough." Shane handed Svetlana a glass of wine and settled into the patio couch next to Ilya. "It is all your money," Svetlana waved. "Honestly its been a great deal for me. I have made some wonderful investments."
Shane couldn't tell if she was joking, he found he didn't really care either way. She could do whatever she wanted with the funds they'd passed to her as long as they were kept comfortable. Which they were, very much so.
Ilya wrapped the arm not needed for fetch around Shane's back. "Ah, yes, Svetlana, the notorious free-loader. Always needing her rich and sexy friends to take care of her." "Rich, maybe," Shane chirped.
Svetlana snorted.
"HEY! And I was talking about both of us so that is a self dig!"
"Mm, speaking of spending your money." Svetlana got up from her seat. "Wait here, I have a gift for you, Ilya." Anya dropped her ball at Ilya's feet and he leaned down to pick it up. "Is it really a gift if you used my money to buy it?" "Oh so you don't want it?" Ilya lobbed the tennis ball at Svetlana. She shrieked and dodged inside the sliding back door.
The moment Svetlana turned around the corner towards her room. Shane leaned over and took a lazy kiss from Ilya, allowing himself to indulge in the warmth of his husband's mouth for a long moment. Once they pulled back they just smiled at each other. Ilya threw the ball over Shane's head. Shane hadn't even noticed Anya returning it. He burst out in giggles, and Ilya was hopeless to not follow.
- "We get it you are in love." Svetlana slid back onto the porch. There was a black zippered bag in her hands. Shane huffed and flopped back into the couch. Ilya just grinned like a fool. "Yes." Svetlana held up the bag and raised her eyebrows at Ilya. He opened his hands like he was prepared to catch it. Svetlana tsked at him and shook her head. "Its fragile. I'm not throwing it." "Fragile? What did you bring me?" Svetlana held out the bag. "Open it and see." Ilya gently took the case and set it on his lap. Anya whined as he covered the tennis ball that she'd apparently dropped between his legs unnoticed a minute ago.
Shane glanced over as Ilya worked the zipper, and the case fell open. "Sveta you didn't," he said through a smile. Ilya stared down at the camera in his lap. "Thank you," he said with earnest. Svetlana shrugged. "You seemed so sad you couldn't get that shitty one to work on the phone. I figured I could just bring you the real deal." Ilya rotated the device in his hands. "It's such a nice model." Ilya turned to stare at Shane head on. "I am going to be a menace," he announced. "I know," Shane said biting back a smile. -
Dinner was spent with easy teasing and probably too much praise of the venison meatballs Shane had whipped up. Ilya swore he couldn't tell the different between Sheriff Herbs' deer and normal beef, but Shane and Svetlana both said they could, so he took their word for it. Ilya spent the time half eating and half reading the camera manual.
"Like a kid on Christmas," Shane had commented.
But they all got into it once they realized it was the type of manual that had a dozen different languages at the back, and that the Russian was frankly horribly translated.
-
By the time Ilya was in the kitchen with the dishes the plan to go on a hike tomorrow had been floated, shut down, insisted, and accepted.
Part 10 -> (part 10+) -> Part 11 -> Part 12
Hey can I request more from passion for fashion. Maybe with Dan and Danny meeting bane or something? And like maybe realizing that he's their uncle in this universe? Ohh or maybe they don't realize that and just think he's some guy who seems really fond of them and has decided they are his to protect, he could possibly be acting as their neighbor for the time being?
Dan wakes in the most comfortable bed he's ever slept in for the last two decades. A sluggish feeling of laziness comes with that feeling of comfort, so he nearly gives in and closes his eyes again for another nap.
But at the last second, his eyes snap open, and he wills himself to fight against the feeling. His body rebels against his command, trying to go back under, but Dan will not yield. He recognizes the feeling.
oh my god bruh

After feeling himself fit enough to go out, and also building himself a phone out of Red Robin's materials, Danny listened for any movement in the building above him. No one was there perfect.
Using his intangibility and flight, Danny went upstairs. When he was in the main room, he put his feet back on the ground and searched around. Soon he found an area with a bigger computer and additional equipment, there was even a device to create a good suit/costume with materials like kevlar. After looking around, Danny found enough material for the 3D Printer Device to create seven outfits, now for himself he decided he should make three.
One outfit to infiltrate, he based it on the pictures of the League of Assassins' unifrom, but with also some rememberance to his time as a ninja when he chased Vlad through time years ago. Memories.
The second outfit would be a more casual one, for everyday wear, of course he also keeps the Superboy casual outfit he found, on his first day, the jeans and black shirt with symbol.
And a third one based on Red Robins Outfit. Danny kept the red for the main part of the outfit, with Black, but for the boots he chose white. The arms of his top were also white. In general he added green accents like, the soles of his shoes, lines here and there. To top it of in addition to the domino, he made a mask for his mouth - it was also black with green accents. But what he did not create was a cape, he didn't like capes. They mostly got in the way of things.
He got his outfits, folded them together and went on the search for a bag. It seemed the building he found himself in, was quite lived in, even if the underground lab looked abandoned. Danny found a room with the Symbol that was on the shirt he found in the lab, Superboy's room. Since Red Robin tried to clone Superboy and from what Danny heard on the tapes he listened to, it seems the room wasnt used for some time, as such probably nothing of it would be missed. In a closet Danny found a few bags. He took one that seemed big enough for his clothes and then some and left the room again.
He packed the outfits, his phone and also some food from the kitchen. As he prepared to leave intangibly he took out the phone, typed in the address of the nearest Lazarus Pit and left.
Two hours later the lights in the building turned on.

Going back to Wayne Manor was like taking a deep breath of stale, rotten air. Honestly, Danny would much rather be back in the Penitentiary than anywhere near Wayne Manor, but Jason didn't want to be on Arkham Island anymore, so they had to go back. Besides, he didn't want anyone else to see him for the rest of the summer.
"Master Jason," Alfred greeted them at the door, "Master Danny. I expect you had an interesting lunch?"
Jason shook his head. "Nope. Completely mediocre."
"For nearly five hours?"
"Yep."
"And your absence when an attack on a Bat Burger happened while you were undoubtedly in the area?"
Jason cringed back a bit. "Would you believe if I said we weren't in the building?"
Alfred hummed. "Perhaps if you hadn't phrased it like that." He turned on his heel, walking to the kitchen. "I'll let the others know you two have returned unharmed, if a little chilly. Dinner will be served soon. Can I assume you'll be joining us tonight, Master Danny?"
Danny shook his head. "I don't want to see anyone."
"A shame," Alfred tutted, "Go clean yourselves up. You look like you just escaped from Arkham."
Danny and Jason looked at each other as soon as Alfred had disappeared.
"How the hell does he know that?" Danny demanded.
Jason shrugged. "I've been tryin' to figure that out for years."
Neil as this cat has RETURNED.
