Right, so today is a 'you must get your backside down and write this assignment' day. Its based on surgery and early drugs introduced in the 1840s - 1930s, which to me screams 'nightmare assignment.' I've read all the material. I have some idea of what I'm supposed to be doing. Now just to try to put pen to paper. My goal is 1000 words by the end of the day. I'm feeling daring!
The module that I'm doing at the moment is Medicine and Society in Europe, 1500 - 1930. Boy, is it hard. Of course it's medicine from a historical perspective, but I'd say you still have to have a good scientific knowledge on various aspects of health. I got so wrapped up in the mental health section that I bought some OU books from a second year health student. The books had little to do with this course, but helped me to see things in a broader sense and begin to understand all of the terminology. I'd recommend doing that if you're going to do this module. Not only is it highly interesting, it helps you to fully immerse yourself into the course.
So my first TMA for A218 is just 1000 words long. I'm already at 632/1000 and this thing isn't due in until November 5th. I haven't even been allocated a tutor yet. I'm happy that I've decided to get a head start, especially since I've got an exam to be revising for, for October 10th and another module to start alongside this one. I need to keep going. I'll thank myself for it later.
My course doesn't start until the 5th October. I'm currently writing my first assignment. Success.
A New Blog
I have many blogs, yet I thought 'why not one more?' In reality I know that this is just me procrastinating and putting off doing my next assignment. On the upper hand I'm feeling inspired since my first year will soon be coming to a close! I only have these left to complete and in this order:
TMA 03 for A151 Making sense of things: an introduction to material culture.
The big EMA for B120 An introduction to business studies.
An exam for Making sense of things: an introduction to material culture.
Next year I have chosen to also study full time. I know it will be hectic considering I have to do 120 credits alongside working but it will be worth it. I've chosen to study:
A200 Exploring history: medieval to modern 1400-1900
A218 Medicine and society in Europe 1500-1930
I am so excited to study the history of medicine. I covered this in school and I loved it. I've heard that A200 is a little bit dry, but I suppose some of the things I've learnt about this year were dry too. You just have to take the bad with the good.
