Reece Morton
Reece Morton is the soul behind A4PS. Inspired by his sisters and himself, he loves to create at his studio, in company of some music or postcast . Be your own best friend, like he said, and let’s create!
Tell us about one of your top favourite pieces of work? Why that one?Bunny Foo Foo. It was my first attempt on a large scale canvas (2x2metres) and was the first piece I began in my new studio. I had spent months of energy, labour and paint on it when I first moved into my studio, then one night ,fresh on the heels of a break up and feeling low on high emotions, I painted over the original piece and started again. A way of distracting myself and covering up feeling sad I wanted to prove I could create something positive out of the negative. It became symbolic to me. To show myself nothing lasts forever, nothing is sacred and not to regret or miss that which was once there. The finished result was Bunny Foo Foo. It was also the first piece to be selected to enter the gallery I’m now represented by (Artevistas Gallery) and restored faith in myself when it sold in only a couple of days and was shipped to the Hollywood Hills. Level up baby :) haha
Where is your favourite place to be when you are creating new work? Alone in my studio and out of my own way. With a cup of green tea and depending if I’m on a sober run or not some New York Diesel :) and always music or a podcast on.
Who or what is your main source of inspiration? Myself and my sisters. I have learned to be my own best friend. It helps me gauge this life a little easier. So I have to do stuff that impresses me first, if not whats the point? I’m constantly observing myself and taking notes, so if I think something I have done aint that cool it pushes me to change or take more risks. And I got to represent for my two beautiful sisters so I can preach to them a little truer when I get to see them…… also people who smile at you for no reason is pretty inspiring for me.
Can you recommend our readers a must see movie? HyperNormalisation by Adam Curtis and Unlawful Killing by Keith Allen
If you had the opportunity to come across yourself as a child what advice would you give? “be how you want to be, not how they tell you to be!” Peter Wastell. Because no one will ever fully understand you, they will only interpret you to their level of understanding. So just chill, it’s all good…... oh and go to that party Rudi Gold was inviting you to.
