Hitoshi gasped awake, desperately clutching at his chest, where he could have sworn a gaping hole would be waiting. His hand found solid warmth, and he collapsed back into his mattress with relief.
He pulled as the memories of his not-quite-dream, and unravels the end: the push and pull of two titans, the feeling of black tendrils cutting through bone, the pain and the fear and the peace, knowing that they were safe, even if she wouldn't be there.
He had been dreaming of a memory that wasn't his.
Who the hell is Shimura Nana? He asks himself.
