The 1892 Squaw Island Lighthouse in Michigan was saved by a historical society, the exterior was restored, and it’s back on the market for $3,200,000. There are 69 acres of private island and even a heron rookery on the property. 

It will need extensive, costly repairs, and in addition to the house and lighthouse, the sailor’s quarters in the back will also need restoration. 

But it will be beautiful when restored, if someone with deep pockets cares to take on the project.

The red brick alone, and the gorgeous wood inside are so worthy of restoration.

This is the Wolf Trap Lighthouse, in Virginia, and it could’ve fulfilled my dream of owning a lighthouse, if:  A. It wasn’t so expensive, to begin with ($249,000); B. It at least had an island around it, b/c I’m afraid of deep water (But, it did come with a waterfront lot); & C. If I had the money to refurbish it. 3 strikes and I’m out. But, take a look at it, anyway.

Beautiful classic molding.

Culebrita Island Lighthouse. 1886. marinas.com

Culebrita “Little Culebra”  is a small, uninhabited island off the eastern coast of Culebra, Puerto Rico and is part of the Puerto Rico Archipelago. 

The Culebrita Lighthouse was registered on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on October 22, 1981; however, no work has been done to maintain the facility. In 1989, Hurricane Hugo caused extensive damage, and in 1995 the tower was destroyed by Hurricane Marilyn. The Culebra Foundation, starting in 1994, has tried to attract local and federal attention to save the lighthouse, but they have had little success. Presently, the lighthouse is in danger of collapsing. Wikipedia

The Aniva Rock Lighthouse was built in Russia by the Japanese in 1939. It rests on a portion of rock just off the coast of Sakhalin. The lighthouse  has since been abandoned.
