So the Guardians inferno video came out (spoilers: it is everything I wanted it to be and more) and Karen Gillan seems to be doing the main backup vocals (at least in the in-universe, IDK if she actually did, NOT THE POINT). But this reminded me of the time Karen sang “Chandelier” on Seflie. Which reminded me of Selfie, that show ABC cancelled in 2014 after 13 episodes, the final one of which I hadn’t been able to watch...till now. And so, allow me to rant.

Dear ABC,

WHY DID YOU CANCEL THIS SHOW?! It had the potential to be such a sweet, caring, wholesome and fun show, and you killed it! You just decided “Welp, this is pointless, shut it down boys!” I mean this show was just so FUN! AND SWEET! AND KAREN & JOHN HAD SUCH GOOD CHEMISTRY I MEAN ARE WE SURE THEY WEREN’T LEGIT TOGETHER?! Just...why?

because you know henry wouldn’t have removed working for the weekend from his playlist.

written because as usual, i was watching the episodes at two am 

eliza dooley made her way over to the glass house her friend henry calls home, a little early for their friday night lesson that always somehow turns into a movie night complete with takeout. (not that she minded.) she stopped short of knocking on the door when she heard it- music (what is that, 80s rock?) blaring from henry’s excellent living room sound system. a peek through the glass windows of his home afforded her a view of henry higgs himself, mister button ups and bow ties, having a one-man concert complete with a tv remote mic.

she couldn’t help the grin that spread across her face, immediately reaching for her phone to capture the moment- until she remembered the first thing she learned from him. (you think you’re getting it, but you are in fact missing it.) and henry higgs dancing in his living room like nobody was watching is not a thing she wants to miss. eliza gives him (and herself) a few more minutes to enjoy the moment before she knocks.

Selfie (2014) must have had the worst luck reaching its potential

Canceled after 7 episodes on ABC right when episodes were improving that even critics even changed their minds

Remaining unaired episodes were released on Hulu, but it still wasn't picked up

Removed as a nominee from the People's Choice Awards one month after the show's cancellation

Almost 10 years later, a company was interested in making a Selfie movie revival (was also an investor for the movie, Crazy Rich Asians), but Warner Brothers didn't want to release the film rights

Not streaming on any mainstream platforms

From actress/producer Liu Yuxin regarding the Selfie (2014) revival

I wonder if David Zaslav (CEO of Warner Brothers) is the main reason why the Selfie movie isn't being made. Especially with all of his controversies mismanaging the company and removing projects for tax write-offs. I think a movie would do well in China if they want to do international box office.

It would be great if Jon M. Chu can direct a rom-com with Karen Gillan and John Cho some day.
