The irony is not lost on me that Abigail Gluck (the nazi) is a counterpart to Velma (a queer Jewish woman) and Cassidy (a black woman) of all people. If she had a time machine she would absolutely lose it.

Do you think Velma or Cassidy ever thought about the irony of that? “Wait a damn minute, why am I most like her?”

scooby doo posting cause i said i would like 40 days and 40 nights ago. here are my thoughts on the main five

fred:

i’m not sure if i’ve already said this here but fred jones mystery incorporated is my absolute favourite character he’s such an enigma he’s such a weirdo he’s such a guy his whole life has been a lie and fred jones might not even be his real name and he loves traps and his friends so dearly what more could you ask for.

daphne:

daphne is such a fun character because she’s designed to be the damsel in distress and i think every iteration had their way of critiquing or subverting or applying that to her but mystery inc really went above and beyond, although there are times when her writing seemed to just focus on fred i really liked that she was allowed to make mistakes and be weird and have fun solving mysteries with her pals. sometimes not always but it seems people only consider daphne part of the group in relation to her and fred which is what made her leaving at the end of season one a really good character choice for her.

velma:

one of the few things i didn’t like about mystery inc was how the aftermath of velma and shaggy’s relationship leaves velma painted as some kind of villain but outside of that velma’s character is one that intrigues me beyond her. cassidy williams and abigail gluck are two of the most interesting characters in the show because despite their respective groups’ separating they maintain their position as the most active, both however going in completely different directions as if coaxing velma to choose her path. attempt to forget and move on, be a guide for the next generation or push forward with or without the gang and allow yourself to be fully immersed. when the gang split up, it’s no shock when velma follows in abigail’s footsteps but as season two continues and more is revealed velma’s awareness of how cassidy really only wanted to protect her and her friends settles in and she vows to do the same.

shaggy:

lowkey shaggy is one of the most mysterious in the group. fastest metabolism ever, richest parents ever, lives in most cursed town ever what a life. i really enjoyed the episodes with vincent van ghoul because shaggy’s dynamic with the others isn’t as developed as his with scooby and that’s fair but i thought it was sweet that despite how much of a wimp he was he was completely devoted to his friends and he was completely devoted to vincent van ghoul and his movies. it’s funny how every other day he’s either at school, solving mysteries or eating like he has twenty minutes left but he still manages to make time for his celebrity friend.

I apologise for my long absence. I'm really embarrassed. But after one of my last posts and watching the «Night Terrors» series, I do not leave some obsessive thoughts about the relationship between the members of «Benevolent Lodge of Mystery». They've been piling up in my head for too long, so I decided to share it with you.

First of all, I had some clear time frame for the existence of «Benevolent Lodge of Mystery» in my head, namely: from 1880 to 1914 (approximately during the beginning or on the eve of the First World War).

I don't know why, but looking at Oswald Burlington, it seems to me that he showed almost childish tenderness and sincerity towards Mr. Peaches. I have such thoughts that the orangutan has been with him since childhood and that's why Oswald reacted so vigourously to his death. It also seems to me that under the influence of Evil Entity, he, who looks to me as a rather socially active person, began to lead a recluse lifestyle. For some reason, it seems to me that he not only archived records about the adventures and discoveries of the group, but also could periodically respond to letters. Or that Scotty O'Rourke or Marianne Blanchard (who I consider a person who treated injuries and had medical skills) checked him once a month or several months to make sure he was still alive. Well, provided that after the breakup of «Benevolent Lodge of Mystery» they stayed in Crystal Cove, and did not go anywhere, for example, to their homeland (Scotty to Ireland, Marianne to France).

Concerning these two... Scotty O'Rourke and Marianne Blanchard. We know about them... nothing. What happened to them after the breakup of «Benevolent Lodge of Mystery» is not clear, as well as what kind of relationship the band members had, in principle (personally, I think it's quite good, since they travelled the world with each other for about 30 years).

But I do not leave an obsessive thought — probably even a strange thought — that these two, about whom we know nothing, have a rather interesting relationship. I don't know why, but looking at them, I have a feeling that they communicated with each other in such a way that those around them did not understand whether they were flirting with each other or just joking. I don't know why I think so, but it seems to me... a little cute? Perhaps I like the subtext of situationship for these two a little. Or in my head they look like couple...

All right. The more I think about it, the more I realise that I will write too much. So, who's next?

Abigail Gluck. The «brain» of the group. A german by origin. Most likely, after the breakup, «Benevolent Lodge of Mystery» joined Germany. She adhered to Nazi themes. In the 1930s, she met Professor Pericles in Bavaria. They solved mysteries together while travelling on her motorcycle (a cool thing, actually). Then The Second World War. And after its end, Abigail returned to Crystal Cove and Scooby Gang found her an underwater base located near the ruins of the old Crystal Cove, where 60+ years later...

How did she even build this underwater base with armed robots by returning to Crystal Cove? The idea is quite interesting.

For some reason, I have the feeling that after the end of World War II, Abigail Gluck returned to Crystal Cove, (as I say higher) took Professor Pericles with her (which is quite logical). They wanted to find «Treasure» of Crystal Cove — they really wanted to. Who could have had the necessary information? Her good old friend Oswald Burlington, who voluntarily went into hermitage.

Did Oswald let them in? I doubt it. Because, well... His old friend has arrived, with whom he have not communicated for more than several decades. All that is known about her: she had connections with the Nazis. If such a friend suddenly finds herself on your doorstep with a strange talking parrot on her shoulder, I doubt you'll let her in.

Let's say Oswald didn't let Abigail on the doorstep. Could she have go to Scotty and Marianne? Well, if they were still alive at that time (approximately after the end of World War II).

It is also quite likely, but there is one «but»: Professor Pericles did not mention that he was actually knew another members of the «Benevolent Lodge of Mystery», except for Abigail. Although it sometimes seems to me that if the Scooby gang and Cassidy had not found an underwater laboratory, Professor Pericles would hardly have told them about his acquaintance with Abigail Gluck. So I also have a tiny question.

If we consider from the point of view that Professor Pericles kept silent about his acquaintance with other members of the «Benevolent Lodge of Mystery», it can be assumed that he and Abigail were allowed to live in house of one of them for some time. Abigail and Professor Pericles was looking for information about «Treasure» of Crystal Cove. After they visit the government archive of Crystal Cove, which later... well... burned down in a «mysterious way».

In my first post about «Beloved Lodge of Mystery», I wrote that government archive of Crystal Cove was most likely burned by Abigail Gluck (I really don't expect anything else from her) and someone else. In this case, I bet on Scotty O'Rourke. One is on fire, the other is looks around. Just... Who won't ask questions? This guy. And Marianne Blanchard... In my opinion Abigail obviously can't ask her for that, otherwise, it seems to me, she'll warm her head with something for such a request.

But so... Yes. They set fire to the Crystal Cove government archive and, having received all the necessary information, Abigail began to stand her underwater laboratory, with then... We all know what happened after that.

thoughts... i know obviously ricky is the shaggy counterpart in the original mystery inc, and cassidy is the velma. so if we’re going 1:1 here that means that shelma is the ricky/cassidy counterpart

but honestly? what if velma/marcie is the ricky/cassidy counterpart? the turn to evil, the redemption, etc. marcie and ricky’s whole things also kinda mirror abigail gluck’s turn to evil. danny darrow’s semi-turn to evil (it was more of a descent to madness).

mystery inc the 2nd is already extraordinary and different from the mystery solving groups before them. who’s to say a 6th member this time around is impossible?

though this does kinda raise the idea of mystery inc the 1st being different too. every member EXCEPT cassidy turned evil. idk something something fate and destiny and reincarnation. i wanna know about the rest of the children of nibiru SO BAD!!! i wanna make more comparisons and look at what went wrong in all of them!!!

Abigail Glück was most likely not married. If she were, she would’ve had to have been before or during her time with the Benevolent Lodge of Mystery. At the time, there was an expectation that marriage meant kids, and I doubt she would’ve had time to run around solving mysteries if she had a husband and kids to worry about. Not to mention the fact that her being married would probably throw a wrench into any plans to… idk… disappear into the ocean for several decades. This means that Professor Pericles opting to call her “Frau Glück” instead of “Fraulein” was very progressive for the time. More importantly, this means that Professor Pericles is okay with nazism and murder, but draws the line at casual sexism.

(There’s a possibility he changed what he called her once the cultural norm changed, but changing what you call someone after several decades can be hard to get used to, especially when you aren’t interacting with that person all the time because they’re dead somewhere at the bottom of the ocean.)

SAT. I decided to review «Midnight Zone» and the second season of SDMI in principle. And at the moment when Professor Pericles talked about how he met Abigail Gluck, I was electrocuted (I can't even describe it in any other way), and the following thought appeared in my head:

«What if Professor Pericles stayed with Ricky because he saw something in him that reminded him of Abigail Gluck? What if he wanted to make Ricky like Abigail Gluck?»

I understand. Anything can be. But let's not forget that Professor Pericles was suitable for the members of the original «Mystery Ink» as a grandfather and that he met Ricky when he was over 50 years old. He's seen a lot. This parrot was on the side of the Germans during World War II. He met Abigail Gluck in Germany and was suitable for her possible grandchild.

Let's think about their relationship. At the time of their acquaintance in the 1930s in Bavaria, Abigail Gluck was about 70 years old, and Professor Pericles, let's say, about 20. And I can assume that Abigail Gluck taught Pericles everything she knew herself. She was his mentor. And she brought him to Crystal Cove. She told him about Planispheric Disk and «treasure» of the Crystal Cove. I can assume that it was because of her that Pericles wanted to get this «treasure» and became obsessed with it.

But by the time Professor Pericles met Ricky, Abigail Gluck was already dead. What if during the time spent with Ricky, Professor Pericles at some point noticed that he somehow looked like Frau Abigail Gluck? Maybe the parrot decided to stay to help Ricky develop «properly»? What if Professor Pericles wanted to make him like Abigail Gluck?

And this version explains the parrot's ownery attitude towards Owens. Moreover, Professor Pericles literally raised Ricky, since his parents were not around most of the time.

And, since Professor Pericles was planning to raise Ricky as a kind Abigail Gluck, he had to provide him with the appropriate conditions, namely: providing the necessary knowledge, creating a group to solve mysteries like «Benevolent Lodge of Mystery», dedicate him to the mystery of the existence of Planispheric Disk and convince him that only he is worthy to find the «treasure» of Crystal Cove.

On the one hand, it's done: Pericles taught Ricky everything he knew himself, a couple of years later the original «Mystery Ink» was formed and Ricky knew about the existence of the «treasure» of the Crystal Cove.

But then what went wrong? The answer is simple: Ricky's feelings for Cassidy.

This little thing has already spoiled the formula for creating the «new Abigail Gluck», because the «original» Abigail Gluck was a loner. She despised romantic relationships of any kind, believing that «love» made a person weak. And according to this logic, Ricky became weak. He already had a flaw. A kind of minus. This disadvantage was Cassidy Williams. And that's why Professor Pericles decided to get rid of her. Firstly, she was against his plans, and secondly, she could influence Ricky. For Professor Pericles, eliminating Cassidy was the best way to implement his plan.

So, he got rid of the problem in the person of Cassidy in the episode «Midnight Zone». Ricky works with him again. But there is another «but». Ricky didn’t become the embodiment of Abigail Gluck, as Professor Pericles wanted. Ricky was useful only at the expense of «Destroido» resources. And Ricky was looking for Cassidy. He could get out of control at any moment. And Pericles had no choice but to place mutated cobra larvae in his back. Ricky Owens did not become the incarnation of Abigail Gluck, but he could have been used.
