Plurality is not inherently medical. DID and OSDD systems deserve their own space, it's true, but things related to being a system are things almost every system has in common. Being plural is not a disorder or disease unless you make it one, and all systems with all origins and diagnosises deserve to share plural spaces.

“Oh- and, thanks for asking too! Me and ‘Lio prefer questions like this over assumptions, you know? He’s better at explaining, but I’ll do my best since I’m here.”
[ Truman gets themself super comfy, doing a little stretch before they begin. ]
“So, I think there are multiple, um.. Disorders? That can have systems. I never really looked into much, besides mine. And even then.. It’s hard to find info on stuff. I can tell you what we learned.”
“So- We have what’s known as DID. Uh, this means that we went through a lot of trauma and stuff when we were very young. I don’t.. Remember too much? But, it was bad enough that I just couldn’t anymore. I didn’t want to be around, so I retreated into myself and.. Helio made his first appearance, to protect me.. And then him and the body.”
[ A shift. They seem a little uncomfortable at this part, but they keep going nonetheless. ]
“That’s probably kinda confusing. See, it’s called a system ‘cause we work together to keep ourselves.. Um, I guess.. Sane? And- and alive. As a system. Get it? ‘Lio and X are the only alters we have so far that front. Shoot.. I’m getting ahead of myself. Okay, okay. Uh, alters are what we call ourselves. Me and ‘Lio and X are all our own selves, we have different voices and memories and likes and dislikes. And, we all see ourselves with different appearances. We share a body but we’re not the same. Does that make sense?”
[ They’re getting so much more animated, hands moving fast to keep up with their words. ]
“Fronting is when.. We’re here. Like, present. Controlling the body. Right now, I’m fronting. Sometimes, one of us will backseat when another fronts. That means that they’re kinda.. Think, besides the one who’s fronting. If ‘Lio is backseating, I can hear him so much more clearly and he knows what’s going on. We can’t figure out how to share memories yet. So, it’s one of the only ways to know what the other is doing their time out. It’s not something that can be controlled though.. Neither is fronting. Unless it’s X, but that’s cause they are our support. If the system starts fighting or we’re hurting ourselves, X will come out and take care of us. Besides, well, sometimes with a positive trigger, which is like.. Well, for me- Anytime the body hears music, there’s a much much higher chance I’ll be forced to front.”
[ A blush, as they rub at their cheeks. ]
“Sorry... That was. A lot, huh?”
Most people with a dissociative disorder have not learned to read their emotional signals, only recognizing that they feel globally overwhelmed, or awful, or bad, or tense. They are not yet able to distinguish the physical and mental signals associated with specific emotions, and how they might differ from the signals of other emotions... Reading emotions may be complicated by the fact that some parts have an emotion, while others may not experience it.

I was reading and wanted to post this because 1) I've seen a lot of posts on here talking about switching, and wanted to remind folks that if you don't switch often, or you rarely switch, you're valid! and 2) I've seen several posts wondering if it's typical to experience more switches when sick or stressed, and reassure folks that it's not uncommon.

"Relationships themselves are often triggers. Relationships and any perceived threat to them evoke the most powerful feelings in everyone, for better or worse. When you have been mistreated by others, intense feelings...are often easily triggered by the minor ups and downs that are a natural part of even the best of relationships. And when a serious relational disruption occurs, it can feel catastrophic. Some parts of you may always be on guard, looking out for any cues that perhaps you are being rejected or criticized, and this they may overlook important cues to the contrary. Others may desperately seek out relationships, not attending to whether they are healthy... Anger or critical remarks by a partner or friend in the present may quickly give rise to a partial reliving of old experiences, such as intense fear of being abandoned or misunderstood, or fear that you cannot speak your mind without trouble consequences.

Time can seem too fast or too slow, gaps of lost time make it hard to keep track of the day, time may not be experienced at all, and time sense may differ among various dissociated parts. All these problems with a sense of time lead to confusion. In addition, many people with a dissociative disorder have trouble with time management due to problems with executive functioning
