Mid Year Book Freakout Tag 2026
I was tagged by @thereadingchallengechallenge and after some computer troubles I'm excited to talk books!!!
Number of books you’ve read so far: Goodreads says 115 but I have been reading some short stories with their own pages so it's probably closer to 110.
Best book you’ve read so far in 2026: I can't pick just one so in no particular order some of my new favorites: The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion: Vol. 4 by Beth Bower || The Red Winter by Cameron Sullivan || The Isle in the Silver Sea by Tasha Suri || Angel Down by Daniel Kraus || Snake-Eater by T. Kingfisher
Also a lot of my 5 Stars this year have been poetry so I do have to mention Little Alleluias by Mary Oliver || We Contain Landscapes by Patrycja Humienik || Postcolonial Love Poem by Natalie Diaz || Gold by Rumi trans. Haleh Liza Gafori
Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2026: I haven't read of lot of non manga sequels yet so The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion: Vol. 4 by Beth Bower is in the top spot right now. I do think when I read Dungeon Crawler Carl book 5 that will win hands down because each book has been getting better and book 4 was almost a 5 star for me.
New release you haven’t read yet but want to: I have several but current highest priority are : Canon by Paige Lewis || The Wolf and His King by Finn Longman || Star Shipped by Cat Sebastian || Wolf Worm by T. Kingfisher
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year: Daggerbound by T. Kingfisher is so close but I need it now!!! Also: The Winter Folk by Jen Julian || The Slantwise Histories by Alix E. Harrow || The Thief and the Traitor Bride by V.L. Bovalino || Vanyel and Vixen by Mercedes Lackey || As You Wake, Break the Shell by Becky Chambers
Biggest surprise favorite new author (debut or new to you): I had never even heard of Beth Bower before one of my fave booktubers gave a glowing review of Emma M. Lion and now I want to devour all her books.
Newest fictional crush: I don't really tend to get character crushes. Maybe Vina from The Isle in the Silver Sea?
Book that made you cry: Not a crier but Angel Down was a gut punch of a book.
Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received): Several beauties are now part of my library: The Library of Amorlin by Kalyn Josephson || The Red Winter by Cameron Sullivan || Goldfinches by Mary Oliver and Melissa Sweet || The Wolf and His King by Finn Longman
Book that made you happy: Dionysus in Wisconsin by E.H. Lupton was a delight to read! Also Heartstopper Vol. 6!
What books do you need to read by the end of the year? So many books! So very many!!!! I'd like to finish the Dungeon Crawler Carl series and my read through of The History of Middle-earth! I try not to make too many need to read goals because my mood reading brain laughs at them.
Thanks for the tag @thereadingchallengechallenge and while I'm not tagging anyone specific but anyone who want to should answer because this is fun!
I love when my boyfriend puts my necklace on me. It makes me feel like a bit of love is locked inside the clasp to stay with me when he isn't around.
record store haul (plus 7 inches of satanic panic, not pictured) and kandi from sweet angel @auggusst 💜💜
What are your top 5 tv shows of all time?
tagged by @bearrycool the bearry cooliest☺️ time for y’all to see just how corny i am also nobody asked but also explanations for how much i love them???
spongebob, (this is NOT a joke lmfao, that show is MINE, EYE raised that sponge in bikini bottom, EYE was his neighbor)
futurama (i love you leela, my taurus mutant queen who was just misunderstood, i love you fry my tragic baby who doesn’t let his tragedy kill him because lowkey he’s just vibing, I love you bender my robot baby who is constantly having existential crises every 3-5 business days, i love you senile professor, i love you planet express ship)
home movies (love an ugly animated show with a timeless feel and dry ass humor about kids making movies [of course this didn’t greatly inspire me and lead me to force my friends to make little movies as kids and then grow up to be writing a film of my own with a close friend /sarcasm] also love h. jon benjamin)
bob’s burgers (like hello girl!)
glee (girl listen… the brainrot got me GOODT, my absolutely favorite musical dumpster fire, one of the most insane pieces of media in the last 30 years and we just LET IT HAPPEN, lemme go rewatch this madness 😂 and for you toddlers on the internet born in like 2003, glee was pivotal for my young rainbow flavored ass! Also the first fandom where I was really like fighting on the dashboard because don’t play me or my sis mercedes thank you!)
