Nebraska is a 2013 film directed by Alexander Payne, starring Bruce Dern.
Presented in competition at the 66th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, the film received the award for Best Male Performance given to actor Bruce Dern.
Woody Grant decides to travel from Montana to Nebraska on foot. His wife Kate is against the trip, but will agree to come to the town where she previously lived where her husband and son stopped before reaching the city of Lincoln.
Filming of the film began in October, ended on December 7, 2012 and took place in the state of Nebraska. This is the fourth Alexander Payne film to be shot in Nebraska, the state where the director himself was born; the other films are Citizen Ruth, Election and About Schmidt. The film was shot entirely in black and white.
The film's budget was approximately $13 million.
Actors Gene Hackman, Robert Forster, Jack Nicholson and Robert Duvall were initially considered for the lead role. Bryan Cranston also auditioned for the lead role, but the director didn't think he was right for the part.
