Reggie put a finger to his chin as the thought about the question. He once fell asleep in a tree when he and Lenar set up a tent-treehouse to hide from the Suits. He’d also fallen asleep in an old train car box....

“My mama’s cupboards,” he answered at last, looking up at the stranger. “Me ‘n’ Lenar were playin’ hide ‘n’ seek. So I climbed up inteh mama’s cupboard and hid there.”

He then grinned a big toothy grin filled with mischievous delight.

“Big brother took so long findin’ me that I fell asleep! Da was the one who found me though. Woke me up comin’ fer one a’ his mugs. He ‘n’ mama were so mad!”

This Does Not Spark Joy

Reggie and Lenar actually struggle with having a stable home. They’re terrified that the Suits are going to bust in at any moment or that something bad is going to happen to them because of magic shenanigans in the pawnshop. It’s only been because Bonely was there for them when Reggie was kidnapped by the Suits that Lenar even stays and puts an effort into trusting or bonding with Bonely.

If anything, the instability the Jumpers Gyro puts into their family has only heightened his belief that Bonely is as temporary as any other help and that the only way for him and Reggie to get a real family again is to find their mom. Reggie disagrees and clings to Bonely as a father figure as tightly as Bonely clings to him as his father. 

Knowing this, Bonely has worked incredibly hard to make sure that the boys are safe, know how to handle the magic that inevitably flows through and sometimes disrupts their life, and that if he isn’t there, that someone he knows and trusts is there to look after them until he can get back.

With everything that the Bonely and the boys go through and have been through, teaching and spending time with them when he can is the onlything Bonely can think of to help make things just a little bit more stable in their already turbulent lives.
