Hello again Gold-Heart Anon <3
2: What scene did you first put down?
Slash’s little intro was the first jotting I did. Like in the previous Ask, I had the image of him hunched over a journal scrawling everything out. It was a whole new world to him, and he wanted to make those memories easily-accessible for Dionysian reasons, even if he was/is afraid of being busted. Well, he’s got four books total now, huh? Better remember to cover your ass, Slash, even all these years later!
6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?
It’s my baby, even if some of the early bits make me cringe! So many exclamation marks... Ain’t early love that way, though? Exciting! Fun! Giddy! AHH!!!! Lol. It was also my first writing project in ten (at the time) years. It’s over half a million words long, too! But mainly I’m proud that I managed to stick with such a long, tedious work and keep writing smut scenes without all of them being the same. At first it was only supposed to be porn. I originally meant to put out what I wanted and what I wasn’t seeing/finding (my OTP being downright filthy) and it turned into this lengthy, beautiful love story. Porn with a plot, if you will. It’s the first complete, long-running, in-depth narrative I’ve put out, and I’m very proud of it. Even in its cringe-y moments and run-on sentences <3
15: What did you learn from writing this fic?
I learned so, so much from this amazing monster. From researching 80s gadgets, to flushing out human interactions, to studying up on everything New Orleans! I learned early on that I can’t please everyone, but that there’s always someone who’ll resonate with the writing, even if they never directly communicate. I learned how to be tenacious and follow-through on what I started. I learned, Wow, people actually like what I write...? What?! Me? Jesus, I suck, but apparently these folks think I don’t... Wow! I found more confidence in myself, in text as well as real life. A simple coping mechanism (a deep, vivid imagination) that kept me sane during a traumatic childhood has bought a rainbow of emotions to more people than I thought possible. I somehow even changed someone’s view on homosexuality, which is one of the most staggering conversations I’ve ever had; it’s been a couple years, and I still can’t wrap my mind around it. Can’t forget about fattening up the ol’ vocabulary and learning from/emulating the styles of my favorite authors to flavor the story, either! Oh, I’m probably on a few NSA/FBI lists for my search history, too...particularly kinky things that I was looking into that didn’t make the actual writing cut but have been alluded to in later books.
I guess the main takeaway is that I learned that I have much more value than I thought. It’s been very validating and expanding in so many ways, and it still surprises and humbles me how much love the story gets. I’m so grateful for my readers <3
Dude, what neat questions! Thank you very much! <3
