Learn to Manage Me and The Rest is Easy

During the course of this month, I have faced several domestic challenges that skewed me away from my workload. This class has helped me to understand how important it is to take every variable into account when planning a project, or managing an artist. We have learned how to tie all the previous classes together to become a working example of an Entertainment Business Professional. The music industry is constantly evolving, but the techniques of management will remain constant. Plan, Do, Plan some more, and Do some more. This formula has stood the test of time, and is essential to the success of any business venture.

I expected this course to be very daunting due to the fact that I have little management experience. I am also still in the development phase of my business, so SWOT analyses and other tools tend to leave me shaken. I have surpassed my initial expectations by learning exactly what I have to do in order to be a successful manager, instead of focusing only on the success of the product. Financial aspects of management tend to be the most difficult to forecast. We are very optimistic when relaying initial projections, and that can lead to a negative backlash when the actual numbers are released. This has been the most important lesson for me, as I have attempted to manage an artist in the past. Money was always an issue, and I had no idea of how to throttle spending in order to allow for more business transactions.

I will apply the lessons from this class to my everyday life as well as my future business endeavors. I have began to watch the weekly investment show, ”Shark Tank”, to get a better idea of how to present my business idea to potential investors. I was thoroughly challenged during this course, but I feel as though my production was substandard. Proper management of my time as well as other resources will allow me to perform at my peak when future challenges arise. Product and Artist Management has helped me to consolidate my day in order to get things done in a timely fashion.

The Power of Branding

This month, I have learned the importance of branding when establishing and building a business. I have learned why I like certain things, and why I tend to think of certain companies or products long after the end of my transaction. When we think of branding, we often think of what type of product something may be. We tend to focus on who made the product before we focus on the product itself. In some instances, the brand name will immediately lead us to make a purchase or enlist a specific service from a company. The opinions of our friends and family may influence our purchase and encourage or discourage our future buying decisions. The strength of a brand comes primarily from longevity, but the quality of service can speed up the process of becoming a recognizable brand. The personality of the company itself is often carried through the brand and any and all activities carried out by the company. We see examples of weathered brands everyday when we hear of recalls of some of our favorite products, but the company’s stock does not fall very far. That is due to the power of the brand. To certain consumers, the company can do no wrong, or they will not do wrong for very long. As I build my company, I will focus on building a strong brand that will transcend the limits of my company. The internal message of my company is to Uplift and Transcend. That statement is very dear to my heart, because I have dealt with difficult times and this approach is how I have been able to move forward with positivity. I believe this message can influence and help the younger generation to strive for success despite being disadvantaged. We all strive for a certain quality of life, and I plan to use my brand to make a positive impact on my community.
