I’m doing a Six Sentence Sunday thing, but it’s more than six sentences. Sometimes that’s just how it falls out.

    “...The fuck?” The blood drying on his lips cracks with the words. He turns his head, feeling the resistance of it on his neck, too, seemingly everywhere, a demand that he can’t answer in the discovery of feet to his left. Blinking at them, too, he marshals enough effort to follow the legs up, and up, the bright light of the sky making him squint to discern the familiar, oddly sympathetic face that looks back down at him. There’s a skip in his chest for the soft little smile, the gentle eyes that have no fucking business being where he can see them, an impossible dislocation of time that pulls his past through his present. 

    “Rimbaud?” he finally manages.

    The smile widens a little in response, a sad edge slipping into the corner of the mouth. “Chuuya-kun,” Rimbaud answers, his voice low. “Please take a moment to breathe.”

    “Don’t tell me what to do,” Chuuya snaps, automatic, and then feels like a jerk. Anyway, “You’re supposed to be dead,” he accuses, not sure what else to do. He can’t make heads or tails of this, his brain resolutely engaged in trying to assess the number of ribs he’s broken this time. 

    “I am, yes,” Rimbaud answers sadly, and his expression shifts, his lips pressing together for a moment before he adds, “unfortunately, it’s something we have in common.”

Fuck, this prologue sure is a Thing, and it’s like pulling fucking hens’ teeth. I’ve never written anything creative this fucking slowly, and it’s killing me.
