I wouldn't describe myself as someone who frequently uses hyperbole, but I can confidently say that this is without a doubt the most absurd Fanganronpa trial I have ever seen in a LOOOOONG time (and NOT in a good way). Let's start with Kumada and Shishikura first. 0 out of 10. I hate it. I simply hate it. The fact that ERINA KUMADA LOST TO OSAMU SHISHIKURA is just... It's bleak. It's straight up garbage. SHE HAD SO MUCH POTENTIAL 🥲 SHE COULD HAVE REALIZED HER MISTAKES 🥲 SHE COULD HAVE MADE FRIENDS AGAIN 🥲 SHE COULD HAVE OPENED UP AND GOT THAT REDEMPTION ARC 🥲 SHE COULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH MORE 🥲
But no, she got stabbed and dumped by the sickly snowman (Osamu Shishikura you are officially dead to me, eat yellow snow in Hell and have fun with those pool balls you bastard 🎱🎱). But hey, at least we got her interview right? At least her terminal would have dropped her lore right??? IT'S FINE RIGHT!??! No offense to the Medbay Trio, but the fact that ALL OF THEM SURVIVE is lowkey insane to me. Surely Kumada or Yaitabashi could've been a better replacement...
AND SPEAKING OF WHICH.
There are many things that I won't forgive Von for, and doing Yaitabashi so dirty deserves a special mention here. Just inexcusable, reprehensible, PURE UNADULTERATED SLOP. It was the easy route, plain as day. He could've been so fascinating as a culprit, he could've been the last one standing of the Mahjong trio. But no, you took him and gave him an utterly horrific, needlessly painful death for shock value (kinda reminds me of a certain Crime Scene Cleaner, or is it just me).
You took a character who is still not recovering from Mutsuko's death and the Bleeding's betrayal (which BTW is it not insane how the aftermath for that just went nowhere for the most part), went through brutal shock "therapy", had his fingernails removed, struggled to overcome his weaknesses to the point of begging for death... And you have him boiled alive in a shower and butchered in the same chapter. HOW SPLENDIFEROUS, A REAL BIG BRAIN 10000 IQ MOVE THERE 🤯🤯🤯
And lest we ever forget about Ikeda...
IKEDA EFFIN' DAIKI.
You had the nerve, no the GALL to shove him in our faces for two chapters in a row stealing the spotlight from other characters who desperately needed it and made us go through this nauseating roller-coaster of hating him and emphasizing with him then wanting him dead and wishing he would survive...And you made him the Chapter 3 Culprit. The character who explicitly refused to play the game. The character with several injuries. The character who can barely eat and sleep. The character who doesn't even know what a fire alarm is. You made that character violently slaughter another character. WHAT ARE DOING HERE??? HOW DID YOU FUMBLE THIS BADLY??? GOT THE WHOLE SQUAD PRAISING THIS CHAPTER VON 😐😐😐😐😐😐😐
Even regarding the motive for this Chapter (which is literally just gratuitous violence and know that for Kan and Tatematsu Hell will never be hot enough for them), Ikeda being the killer is ridiculous, In fact, that case is impossible. I can't even get through Okazaki's- Oops, I mean Ikeda's explanation without thinking about the inconsistencies for a few seconds:
HOW DID HE EVEN DO HALF OF THESE THINGS WITH A BROKEN ARM THAT STILL CAUSED HIM PAIN?
HOW WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE SOU'S VOICE PERFECTLY BY READING A STUDENT PROFILE? IT HAD INFORMATION ON HOW WADA REPLICATED VOICES??? WHY???
SUUUUURE, THEY JUST SO HAPPEN TO BE THE SAME HEIGHT, SUUUURE THE ARM THAT IKEDA BROKE JUST SO HAPPENS TO BE THE ARM YAITABASHI POSITIONS BEHIND HIS BACK THE WHOLE TIME STUCK IN THAT SAME POSE, SUUUURE HE COULD'VE CUT HIS HAIR AND BLEACHED HIS EYEBROWS...
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE SHAPE OF THEIR EYES.
The shape of their eyes are clearly different, there is no way Ikeda could replicate that. Compare the two, look close if you must, it's not possible. Those Bluedents could have immediately clocked that something was off based on that alone. I never thought I would say this, but Ikeda was wasted potential just like the other dead students and got turned into Okazaki 2.0 but somehow even worse. Why couldn't Yaitabashi just kill Ikeda??? Would that have not been more interesting???
