PAIN HARDLY EVER BOTHERS HIM ( despite all the wounds and bruises he regularly collects like trophies ). So maybe he’s getting old— or it’s just that kind of a day when nothing really goes according to the plan. Taking into account the SPECTACULAR fall that sent him rolling DOWN THE HILL the second he heard the grim growl behind his back, it must’ve been the latter. Grabbing a fresh shirt off the wooden hanger, that’s where the actual STRUGGLE begins. Tossing around and grunting brings no fruitful results. It only prompt each tiny piece of IVY’S ATTENTION to gravitate towards him.

“Stay back, I’m fi— GORBLIMEY.” The shirt falls to the floor. And so does his last drop of patience. When she steps in to lend a helping hand ( nonetheless ), his brows furrow to soon relax in an oddly relieved expression. A couple of swift yet CAREFUL movements; together they got it over with. Suddenly, PUPPY EYES dart at her. “Help me with the buttons, pretty please?”

                    𝐬𝐡𝐞  𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲  𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬  𝐢𝐯𝐲'𝐬  𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 ,  hungry  for  any  detail  that  would  mean  that  what  the  other  girl  is  saying  is  true .          ❝  how  do  you  --  how  can  you  --  know  that ?  ❞          frazzled  brain  needs  reassurance ,  verbal  explanation ,  saving ,  something  --  she  doesn’t  know  what ,  and  probably  couldn’t  explain  even  if  she  did .     being  a  witch  didn’t  mean  that  everything  made  sense ,  even  if  sarah  can  convince  herself  that  it  does  very  frequently .     many  things ,  especially  normal ,  person  things ,  elude  her  more  than  she’d  ever  admit ,  although  moments  like  this ,  where  she’s  lost  any  semblance  of  depth  of  understanding  or  realistic  problem - solving ,  serves  as  a  reminder  of  her  own  hubris .     she  leans  back  against  the  wall ,  rough  stone  pulling  at  her  hair ,  rooting  her  more closely  to  reality .          ❝  you  can’t  just  --  say  something  like  that ,  ❞          she  mumbles ,  half - seriously ,  half  under  her  breath .

Ben  only  glares.     He hates being quietened, especially in the middle of telling her something as awfully important as how ‘Paul’s Boutique’ is arguably the best Beastie Boys album made to date. And he was just getting to the good part, too.    (Of course, this is subjective, and she has already sat here for a good ten minutes while he goes through each song as a play-by-play. For someone who hates talking, Ben has barely shut up.)      But the look in her eyes he recognises --- she’s heard something. Seen something. Felt something. Sometimes there is nothing there but a feeling. The atmosphere slightly off-kilter. Ben furrows his brow, as she drops her hand away from his mouth. A low voice, he leans closer as not to attract any unwanted ears to their conversation.       “Wh---what?”

     IF  THE  BLEACH  ISN’T  GETTING  RID  OF  THE  STAINS,  IT  SURE  IS  BURNING  HIS  SENSE  OF  SMELL. At least he remembered about protecting his eyes. His shirt is done for and so is this sink. All by the courtesy of some wanderer who chose a very, very bad day for a hike in the woods. SCREW THAT. He will wiggle out of it somehow when the time of interrogation comes ( because as much as he personally would prefer not to go into great detail about every single dried crimson drop, nothing will go unnoticed for Ivy’s probing eye ). Though her VOICE calling out for him alone doesn’t fail to send a shiver down his spine. Perhaps he’s not that bold. Not when it comes to HER.

     Buttoning up the purple coat to cover up the CRIME SCENE, goggles get carelessly tossed to the corner of the bathroom before he steps out of this CHLORINE-FILLED nightmare. Hurried steps are treading down the hallway. Piercing glare shoots at the open door leading to the ATTIC. And he swears — his heart skips a beat. Jaw clenches as a poor parody of an unassuming smile crawls onto his mouth.

     ❝ Oh, what is the matter?  ❞ Leaning against the ladder, unblinking stare fixates on his lover. The question isn’t what she might’ve found UP THERE but what she hasn’t found yet. ❝ Trouble coming down, dear?  ❞ Climbing up, body tenses up the second dusty shoes meet the squeaky floorboards. EASY NOW. ❝  It’s a mess here. Just some clutter and junk. Nothing to see here, really.  ❞

ivy was like his last resort. the last thing finley wanted to do was drag others into his burdens, especially ones involving his father. but hearing about her success as a supernatural p.i. caused the hunter to travel miles and miles to see her, to ask for her help- something he hasn’t done since the beginning. ‘ this is, uh... this is what he looks like. or- used to look like. it’s an old picture, ’ handing over the still of marcus, eyes glance over the photo. longing bubbles in his chest, up to his throat; fin swallows it back down. ‘ i don’t even know if he’s still alive, but... anything helps, ’     @abyssurvived​.

PHYSICALLY JERKS AT THE SHARPNESS OF HER TONE , AS IF THE WORD SLAPPED HER , BLEND MOVING GENTLY FORWAD IN CASE THE GIRL SCARPERS - —–ivy awkwardly hovers near the girl , glancing around briefly before fixing her gaze back on her ( thankful the girl didn’t run ; that’d have been awkward ) . ❛ are you— aren’t you a little young to be our here on you at this time … sweetie ? ❜ internally winces at the word , knows it doesn’t sound near as natural or gentle as when other people use it , but can you blame her ? she’s in shock . ❛ i didn’t mean to be rude staring at you like that , just uh , taken aback to be honest . ❜

          anger  bubbles  up  in  her  chest ,  but  she  forces  herself  to  hold  it  back ,  contain  it ,  save  it  until  she  needs  it .          “  isn’t  age  nothing  but  a  number ?  ”          she  breezes ,  flippant  instead  of  furious .     her  mussed  attire  does  not  change  the  way  she  stands  :  posing  like  she  owns  the  world ,  even  though  she  hardly  owns  herself .          “  taken  aback ?     by  a  lonesome  child ?     interesting .  ”          a  smile  spreads ,  sharp ,  though  not  quite  threatening  just  yet .
