I absolutely cannot but also 100% absolutely can believe this was a real chat I had over our library chat system. In fact I went so far as to text and ask a couple of coworkers if this was them. Playing me for a mild joke.

I had to ask out poli sci University Librarian the answer. They said, international law requires that a different sovereign state recognize the person/neighborhood/state in the chat as a sovereign independent state. Thought many international laws and agreements would prevent that from happening. Or at least, very difficult.

Also, without knowing what state they are in made it difficult to direct them to any possible resources.

What a sign of the times.

Where are the university librarians? I'm doing student supervision and I wanna talk engagement for my student workers. I'm making memes for encouraging them to freaking put their patron interactions in our tracking thing. (Also for staff who are just as bad at doing it.) I've also been tasked with coming up with ways to create training modules that are more engaging than the nothing we have right now. I'm sitting down with our training matrix tomorrow and seeing what I can highlight out of it. I'm also going to check the student evaluations and see if there's any trends in stuff that needs addressing.

JOMP Book Photo Challenge

So remember that post where I complained about microaggressions in my library's catalogue? Well. That's turned into a project.

I'm looking for recommendations for LGBTQ+ non-fiction books. They can be about any topic- health, history, sociology, politics, literature, etc. They can be both for the LGBTQ+ community, as well as geared towards cishet readers (though honestly I'm hoping for more of the former rather than the latter).

The long story short is I work at an college library (undergrad) where there hasn't been any real collection development in this area.... for forever, as far as I can tell. What books we have are out of date especially in the social/political realm- lots of very outdated/now offensive terminology, or just OBE content (I don't think anything has been purchased in this subject area since before Oberfeller). I need to approach the library director with some suggestions for collection development, and I know this is an area where I would benefit from some crowd sourcing.
