VERY ironic that the academy shut out a film about the importance of preserving your own culture and being true to who you are to instead nominate a film from a guy who wrote about a different culture he refused to research at any point & doesn’t even respect the language its in
cannot believe the academy forgot to include these two legends in their in memoriam segment which in turn has them invalidate more women's accomplishments in the film industry. i'm shocked.
Olivia Hussey 1951- 2024 (pictured on the left) was known for her iconic role as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet (1968) directed by Franco Zeffirelli which was the only adaptation of Romeo and Juliet to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. other notable roles include Black Christmas (1972), Jesus of Nazareth (1997) & It (1990)
Mitzi Gaynor 1931-2024 (pictured on the right) was a star of old hollywood. she was an actress, singer & dancer. She was the star of 50s musicals such as South Pacific (1958) & Les Girls (1957) & other notable films such as We’re Not Married (1952) & There's No Business Like Show Business (1954) alongside Marilyn Monroe.

I don't think this is antisemitism, and maybe I'm reading too far into it, but it really rubs me the wrong way that A Real Pain - a movie directed by, written by, and starring Jewish actor Jesse Eisnberg, about Jews reconnecting with their heritage by visiting Poland - had one of its two Oscar nominations, and (so far) win, go to non-Jewish actor Kieran Culkin, especially considering a major scene in the movie is that Culkin's character goes off on their goyische tour guide for a lack of authenticity regarding the presentation of the Holocaust throughout their trip
